With the Oscars ceremony now less than a month away, the Art Directors Guild recently held its own awards ceremony honoring the very best in production design from 2015. The big winners in the film categories were The Revenant, The Martian, and Mad Max: Fury Road for Period Film, Contemporary Film, and Fantasy Film, respectively. All three films are Oscar nominated for Best Production Design, meaning their honors here only make the race that much tighter between the trio. Although I will say it’s great to see Colin Gibson’s incredible work on Mad Max: Fury Road recognized by the Art Directors Guild. Too often production design of this nature is overlooked, and Gibson did an incredible job of making the wasteland feel real and tangible in George Miller’s fever dream.
On the television side, Game of Thrones unsurprisingly won the award for One-Hour Period or Fantasy Single-Camera Series, while Netflix’s House of Cards took home the trophy for Contemporary. Take a look at the full list of winners below.
