Bryan Bertino is continuing his quest to turn the mundane into the terrifying with The Monster. The director first made isolated upper-crust vacation homes into a violent nightmare-scape with The Strangers before trying his hand at the found footage genre and turning the camera into an object of fear with Mockingbird. Now he's taking on the country roads and mother/daughter bonding with The Monster, a the tale about a mother and daughter at odds who are forced to come together when they're stranded on a remote road with a mysterious beastie hunting them down.

Much like The Strangers, The Monster sets up a strained emotional relationship well before the horror begins. The film stars Zoe Kazan as a divorced mother on an emergency late night road trip with her headstrong daughter (Ella Ballantine) to see the girl's father when they find themselves stuck on desolate backroads after car crash. As they try in vain to signal help, they soon realize they're not alone.

The Monster also stars Scott Speedman. It's available now exclusively on DirectTV and arrives in theaters and on VOD November 11th, 2016. Watch the trailer below.
