The first teaser poster for Disney’s The Muppets has popped up online, albeit as a blurry and off-center snapshot taken by a fan in Montreal, but that’s better than nothing right? It features the classic characters Gonzo (my personal favorite), Fozzie Bear, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Animal walking out onto what appears to be a stage aglow with spotlights. It’s awesome to have the Muppet gang back, but this picture creeps me out. THEY’RE WALKING, as in with legs -- it’s too much too soon.  Hit the jump to see what the Muppets look like in all their anatomically correct glory.

[Update: Disney has released a super high-resolution version of the poster, presumably to make the Muppets appear much closer than you originally thought.]

And here’s the official synopsis:

“On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino house band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.”

We’ll have to wait for a trailer to find out whether the Muppet characters will have functioning lower limbs in the actual film. Either way, The Muppets is destined to be a fun time at the cinema come November 23rd. With a cast that includes Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones, Zack Galifianakis and Ricky Gervais, how could it not be?
