New, Real Trailer for THE MUPPETS

     June 18, 2011

Disney has released the first true trailer for The Muppets following three parody trailers over the last month.  As a result, the trailer is accountable for more story, which plays on the Muppets’ return to movies after a hiatus.  In the script by star Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller, the Muppets stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever to raise the $10 million to save the Muppet Theater and reunite the gang.

Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, and Rashida Jones also star in the movie, directed by James Bobin (Flight of the Conchords).  Zach Galifianakis, Jack Black, Ricky Gervais, Neil Patrick Harris, Emily Blunt, and many more are set for cameos. The Muppets opens on November 23.  Watch the trailer after the break.

Official synopsis:

On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino house band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.

This looks absolutely wonderful! I’ve always been a big fan of The Muppets. However, did I hear the same music Warner Bros. used in one of their Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II trailers?

  • Dogg

…and now we’ve got wrong sounding muppets.

  • Terry

I hate it. Cheesy, outdated corny bullshit. I call this a missed opportunity.

    • Troll Detector

      I call you a troll.

  • Agrees with Dogg

I’m surprised at the voices, honestly. At some points, they sound very similar to the originals. On the other hand, there are many points where they sound completely wrong. It’s not like it would be too hard to audition people for the roles, at least one out of every ten people has an uncle who does a perfect Kermit impression.
On the other hand, I’m excited to see the Muppets brought back. I hope they stick with puppetry, and don’t go and try to replace them completely with computer animation. The puppets have such charm!

    • Tmo

Replacing the puppets with computer animation would defeat the whole purpose of the Muppets. On the other hand I’m pretty excited for this film, it looks good and all the trailers have entertained me.

Ah, it looks like shite. Jason doesnt understand Muppets from the looks of this trailer. Rather than the actual adult nature of the originals, here we dumbified kiddy crap that hes using to leverage his own career.

    • excpired

Somebody obviously doesn’t know Jason’s career. I know this movie is going to be good, it will have an appropriate amount of cynicism, twisted humor and at the same time it will spend a lot of the movie poking fun at the “happy wonderland” movie.

Also The Muppet’s aren’t really adult flicks, sure they have adult elements and can be entertaining to adults on a level that doesn’t reach kids but they aren’t truly insightful films. They didn’t make the Dark Crystal for no reason.
