I love Nicolas Winding Refn (Pusher, Drive, Only God Forgives) and, given the amount of neon he’s been putting in his movies recently, I can’t wait to check out the color palette on his female driven horror movie, The Neon Demon. That film started shooting today in Los Angeles and is definitely one of my most anticipated pictures of 2016. And now we know a little bit more about the plot, which certainly sounds more incident driven than the gorgeous Only God Forgives.
The film stars Elle Fanning, Jena Malone, Karl Glusman, Bella Heathcote, Abbey Lee, Desmond Harrington, Christina Hendricks, and Keanu Reeves. It is being produced by Space Rocket Nation’s Lene Borglum in association with Wild Bunch and Gaumont.
Here’s the official synopsis for The Neon Demon:
When aspiring model Jesse moves to Los Angeles, her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has.
Refn also offered the following delicious comment:
“I very much look forward to the odyssey I’ll be taking with all these wonderful actresses (and a few guys) to travel beyond The Neon Demon where all I see is the wicked dying young.”
There’s no release date for The Neon Demon as of yet, but you can bet your bottom dollar that I’m already willing to give myself over to it completely.
