I always welcome a solid R-rated holiday comedy. The season is awash in family friendly fare, but we keep coming back to Bad Santa and The Ref because those films gets into the nastiness of the holiday. The Night Before doesn’t look like it has the angry edge of those films, but judging by the trailers, it appears to be nailing the hard-R comedy. It also helps that the film not only has Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the lead roles, but also the talented Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies) behind the camera. I’ll happily raise a glass of eggnog to seeing this one during the holidays.

I’m pleased to announce we’re giving away 25 admit-two passes to the Atlanta screening of The Night Before. To enter for a chance to see the movie early and for free, send an e-mail to Collider.Passes@gmail.com with the subject line “THE NIGHT BEFORE”.  The screening is on Monday, November 16th at 7:30PM at Regal Atlantic Station, so don’t enter if you think you’ll be unavailable.  Multiple entries from a single person will disqualify all entries from that person.

In case you haven’t seen the latest trailer, check it out below. The Night Before opens November 20th, and also stars Lizzy Caplan, Jillian Bell, Mindy Kaling, and Michael Shannon.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Ethan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Isaac (Seth Rogen) and Chris (Anthony Mackie) have been friends since childhood, and for a decade, their yearly Christmas Eve reunion has been an annual night of debauchery and hilarity.  Now that they’re entering adulthood, the tradition is coming to an end, and to make it as memorable as possible, they set out to find the Nutcracka Ball – the Holy Grail of Christmas parties.
