Relativity Media has released the first The November Man trailer for director Roger Donaldson’s (The Bank Job) action thriller.  The film stars Pierce Brosnan as an ex-CIA operative who is brought back in on a personal mission and finds himself pitted against his former pupil in a deadly game involving high-level CIA officials and the Russian president-elect.  It’s fun to see Brosnan back in Bond-esque mode, and the prospect of him appearing alongside former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko is neat, but this trailer paints the film as taking itself very, very seriously.  Hopefully there’s some fun to be had once we get into the thick of it, because as of now The November Man just looks like another gritty, generic riff on Taken.

Hit the jump to watch the The November Man trailer and to check out new images.  The film also stars Luke Bracey (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) and Eliza TaylorThe November Man opens in theaters on August 27th.

Here’s the official synopsis for The November Man:

Code named ‘The November Man’, Peter Devereaux (Pierce Brosnan) is a lethal and highly trained ex-CIA agent, who has been enjoying a quiet life in Switzerland. When Devereaux is lured out of retirement for one last mission, he must protect valuable witness, Alice Fournier, (Olga Kurylenko). He soon uncovers this assignment marks him a target of his former friend and CIA protégé David Mason (Luke Bracey). With growing suspicions of a mole in the agency, there is no one Devereaux can trust, no rules and no holds barred.

SkyFall is a disaster- it was basically a Brosnan formulaic Bond film that abandoned all the good will of Casino Royale. It was like Mendes hadn’t even seen a Bond film since the Moore era. It brought nothing new to the table for Bond- all it did was rehash previous ground in odd ways. Hopefully Mendes next efforts won’t be as obsessed with honoring the past-

At least we got some Bond background and fantastic cinematography, song and tone which Quantum of Shit didn’t have.

we really didn’t though – we learned more about Bond in a more creative way from Vesper on the train in CR. All SF did was retell what Vesper said, again making it look like Mendes didn’t even see the first 2 Craig films. I did like the score of Skyfall but I desperately want David Arnold back. He absolutely learned how to craft a bond score that fit the franchise.

also how excited Mendes was to bring in the GF astin martin was odd – again it was like he didn’t realize that Craig’s bond had just obtained a non-gadgeted version of the car in CR. By having the GF version of the car in SF it created a weird Bond timeline, it made it seem like Craig’s Bond was also Connery’s Bond – they also had silva mention that Bond had been a spy for a very long time, when he just became an agent in CR, SF really just killed the continuity of the Craig films. If the SF bond was the Connery bond still, that would mean that moneypenny was already around in his past – so I guess the new moneypenny is just a another person with the same name – its just a weird mishmash of ideas movie that was created to appease the “fan”- and none of my comments even talk about all the plot holes and character inaccuracies that occurred frequently in the movie. Casino Royale is an amazing Bond film and will be remembered as one in the future, Skyfall will eventually be seen a failure once people get past how much money it made.

The biggest fail of SF is how much money it made- it just opens the door to let EON let Mendes do whatever he wants in his second movie. SF basically said NOTHING about bond- what can a second bond film by Mendes say? I’m hoping this one is shot on film and Imax at least-

Overall Skyfall is an enjoyable, well-made action film and a decent Bond film and that’s what matters most. Some of the issues you mention are valid but aren’t that big a deal. The one area where I feel Skyfall really messed up was in making Bond a dumbass with his plan to bring M to a secluded place with little to zero tactical advantage, and then lead the villain to it. Basically, M died due to Bond’s incredibly foolish schoolboy error.

there was absolutely no reason for M to be there – she could have been in a motel 50 miles away and Silva still would have believed that she was at SkyFall – its one of the many issues that add up to make Skyfall a complete mess of a movie-

I could pick SkyFall apart for hours- but i won’t here- conversely, I can’t pick apart Casino Royale or even Quantum of Solace- QOS isn’t great, but it continues the great story of CR in a very entertaining way- I love that Bond puts a gun in the hands of a woman and tells her to get her revenge, the Bond in SkyFall would never have done that and I didn’t grow in the slightest and the audience didn’t learn a lick of new info about him, how bland.

Like I said, hopefully Mendes can say something with his second chance- and I pray to god he actually watched CR and QOS before he starts production on the new movie.

Looking at the third image, you can see that there is some fun but the trailer was crafted this way. Remember trailers for Iron Man 3?

Studio Exec 1: This Liam Neeson formula has really taken off. People are loving a caucasian male in his 50′s being a badass and wreaking havoc. Who else do we have that we could plug in?

    Studio Exec 2: Kevin Costner.

    (After 3 Days to Kill)

SE1: That didn’t work out too well. Who else do we have?
    SE2: Peirce Brosnan?
    SE1: Eh, couldn’t hurt.
