Relativity Media has released the second trailer for The November Man, director Roger Donaldson’s (The Bank Job) new action thriller.  The film stars Pierce Brosnan as an ex-CIA operative who is brought back in on a personal mission and finds himself pitted against his former pupil in a deadly game involving high-level CIA officials and the Russian president-elect.

While the first trailer was brief and dour, this new one is actually quite a bit more fun.  If you can embrace the incredibly on-the-nose exposition in the first half of the trailer, then you should have no problem tuning in to the (admittedly slight) humor built into the second half.  Only time will tell if this film transcends the tired tropes on display here, but at the very least it promises to be something of a quality repetition of the clichés its embracing.  Olga Kurylenko, Luke Bracey and Eliza Taylor also star. Hit the jump for the new The November Man trailer and poster.  The film opens in theaters on August 27th.

While it's cool to see Pierce Brosnan back in action, I sort of wish this didn't feel as middle-of-the-road as it does.  Here's hoping the more fun elements here are on greater display in the full movie.

Here’s the official synopsis for The November Man:

Code named ‘The November Man’, Peter Devereaux (Pierce Brosnan) is a lethal and highly trained ex-CIA agent, who has been enjoying a quiet life in Switzerland. When Devereaux is lured out of retirement for one last mission, he must protect valuable witness, Alice Fournier, (Olga Kurylenko). He soon uncovers this assignment marks him a target of his former friend and CIA protégé David Mason (Luke Bracey). With growing suspicions of a mole in the agency, there is no one Devereaux can trust, no rules and no holds barred.
