The first trailer for the horror film The Possession has gone online. Produced by Sam Raimi, the film centers on a young girl who acquires an antique box at a yard sale, but she’s unaware that the box contains an evil spirit. First of all, if you haven’t been creeped out by the poster yet, take a look here. As for the trailer, let me just say that the film earns positive marks for not following in the found footage genre’s footsteps. The Possession trailer actually plays more like an homage to classic horror films like The Exorcist, Rosemary’s Baby and Poltergeist rather than any major horror film that’s been produced within the past ten years. It’s also refreshing to see an exploration of the darker side of Jewish folklore (the original film was titled The Dibbuk Box) rather than a rehashing of Catholic mythos. Director Ole Bornedal may well have found a combination of a respectable method of shooting and a capable cast that can restore some faith in the horror genre.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, and Natasha Calis. The Possession opens on August 31st.

Here’s the synopsis for The Possession:
A young girl buys an antique box at a yard sale, unaware that inside the collectible lives a malicious ancient spirit. The girl’s father teams with his ex-wife to find a way to end the curse upon their child.

Whoa, that actually looks pretty crazy.
just as Rosa implied I am startled that a single mom can make $9192 in one month on the computer. did you see this web site..WorkHouse.Notlong.CoM
As a huge fan of horror, I think it looks pretty alright.
Too bad the trailer gave away the farm.
hahaha…..they even through the kitchen sink in there!!
Freaky! I remember discovering this story, online, a few years ago. It was one of the most genuinely frightening stories I’ve ever read. I don’t frighten very easily (thought Paranormal Activity was one of the biggest cinematic frauds of all time). But, this looks like it captured the creepy Dibuk Box legend fantastically. Hadn’t heard about this before now. Excited!
Wow that looks pretty good.
haha that priest is matusyahu! and sidenote this movie looks fantastic. love jeffrey dean morgan
Priest? Try “rabbi.” Well done, sir.
Definitely seeing this. Glad to see Judaism getting equal share of the child-exorcism genre.
Holy poop on a sweltering sidewalk…I cant wait!!!
horror movies sucks as always
Now that looks promising way better than those Panormal movies , the name Sam Raimi gives more faith in this movie he does this kind more better
This proves how much a perfectly placed song can elevate material. Although the movie looks good. My only quibble is in regards to the title change. “The Possession” is so generic. At least “The Dibbuk Box” helps separate itself from other movies in the genre.
I am expecting a complicated ghost story from this movie. And i hope it would be such movie .

Not a big fan of the horror genre but these type of movies always win me over, it looks pretty good. I am also glad its not a catholic religion story line, I am not religious at all but its good to see a change in the material with the Jewish story.
I was interested in this before the trailer. After reading the original hoax story of the Dybuk Box, I was intrigued as to how they’d make this film, and what would come of it all….
But that trailer did nothing for me. It’s far less interesting than the recounting of fake events in an amazon posting that started this whole thing. The on-the-fringe-imagined terror and confounding coincidences are far more terrifying than this generic exorcism fare. Color me disinterested, count me out.
Well Sam has my money for sure. That is my kind of movie form a true master of the genre.
Darn it, I already got so scared by THE RITE that I converted to Catholicism, now I’m gonna have to go Jew. Well, I’m a credit to any group that gets me.
Wow.. This is strange stuff about girl.
