First Trailer, Poster, and Images for THE PURGE: ANARCHY Starring Frank Grillo, Michael K. Williams, and Zach Gilford

     February 12, 2014

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer, poster, and images for writer/director James DeMonaco‘s horror sequel The Purge: Anarchy.  The follow-up continues the plot device from the first film in which all crimes are legal on one day of the year, during the annual “Purge”, which preserves peace and prosperity for the other 364 days of the year.  The sequel looks solid since instead of another home invasion, it appears we’ll be going beyond the confines of a shelter and watching characters struggle to survive the night.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer, poster, and images. The film stars Frank Grillo (The Grey), Michael K. Williams (Boardwalk Empire), and Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights).  The Purge: Anarchy opens in theaters on June 20th.

Nope, still can’t get past the whole ‘Purge’ idea. Unless you’re able to suspend your disbelief – which I just can’t in this particular case – the movie’s already failed.

    • Mezmero

Failed? It was the only horror movie besides the Conjuring to top the box office.

      • Jan

Narratively, that is. I’m fully aware it was a financial success.

    • Strong Enough

but you believe in flying armor that fights aliens with a super soldier and super spy?

      • Jan

“…which I just can’t in this particular case…” — Me, in the initial post.

      • Mike

Don’t worry, The Purge was completely terrible aside from the plot as well. The decisions the characters make, the acting, and the low budget effects are all laughable.

      • Mr. Fairlane

Ah, Mike I thought it was pretty good. Sorry to hear you beat it up so bad.

      • Strong Enough

so you can believe in man turning into green raging muscle man?

  • Steven

This is exactly what most people wanted to see in the first film. The original was great for the first 30 mins and then it went into cliche auto pilot.

I’m not much hooked either, they need to elevate the satirical tone much more. A Carpenter/Verhoeven kind of society thing.

Also , i like the idea of assholes trying to look dangerous and all cool in a psycho kind of way, i think that is exactly what it would be like, that’d happen, but there also needs to be the common character, the regular guy just defending himself. Kind of like the Ethan Hawke character from the first movie plus balls. Add a Charles Bronson kind of guy to the mix.
