I'm all for another installment in The Purge franchise.  While I thought the original film was an interesting concept in search of a better movie, this summer's The Purge: Anarchy was leaps and bounds better in every way and essentially delivered the movie we wanted the first time out (I think Matt agrees with me on this one).  And I think the concept is actually very ripe for a franchise that's consistently renewable and can be set in a variety of different locales with different actors and scenarios (though I'd prefer it if they didn't follow up too much on the resistance from the last film).

So I'm welcoming the announcement of The Purge 3 as good news (thought we all sort of knew it would happen anyway, at this point its simple math given the budget and returns on these films).  Writer/director James DeMonaco will return to pen the script, though his participation as a director is not yet set in stone.  Hit the jump for more on The Purge 3.  Blumhouse, Platinum Dunes and Universal will likely release the film next year.

DeMonaco told Deadline:

“I never imagined that The Purge would become the phenomenon it has become and I am thrilled to continue my collaboration with Blumhouse, Sebastien Lemercier, Platinum Dunes and the great team at Universal in building The Purge into a worldwide franchise."

Here's hoping The Purge 3 will continue that upward trend.  I've actually thought about several scenarios for the third film but will refrain from pitching them here.  What are your ideas for the franchise?
