The full trailer for The Runaways has finally been released. Starring Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie, the trailer gives you a lot more of a look at the movie than the teaser trailer from back in January. I saw the film at Sundance and thought it was really good with fantastic performances from the lead cast. The movie is based on the book Neon Angel: The Cherie Currie Story by Cherie Currie and it tells the coming-of-age story of the teenage rock band The Runaways and how they came together in the mid 1970’s.
The movie is loaded with great music, and the trailer gives you a nice sample of what to expect. Watch it after the jump. And if you missed our previous coverage…here’s 8 high resolution images, here’s my review from Sundance, and here’s my interview with Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning. The Runaways gets released March 19.
The Runaways follows two friends, Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) and Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning), as they rise from rebellious Southern California kids to rock stars of the now legendary group that paved the way for future generations of girl bands. They fall under the Svengali-like influence of rock impresario Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon), who turns the group into an outrageous success and a family of misfits. With its tough-chick image and raw talent, the band quickly earns a name for itself-and so do its two leads: Joan is the band’s pure rock’ n’ roll heart, while Cherie, with her Bowie-Bardot looks, is the sex kitten.
