Illumination Pictures has released a new trailer for the animated adventure The Secret Life of Pets. Directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me) and Yarrow Cheney, the comedy imagines the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day, focusing on the tenants of an apartment building in New York City. After two of their own are captured by animal control, the intrepid pack of furballs has to find their way back home through the action-packed streets of NYC.
I’m a die-hard animal lover and proud future cat lady, so this is right up my alley. The trailer offers a bit of a blend between Toy Story and Homeward Bound, reveling in the imaginary shenanigans of our most beloved companions when our backs are turned, and throwing in a dash of adventurous journey. Illumination Studios has been focused on their Despicable Me franchise in recent years and, from the looks of the trailers, The Secret Life of Pets offers not only a break from the Minion madness but a delightful animated comedy with some of the best comedic talent in the biz. The film boasts a stacked voice cast, including Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Albert Brooks, Steve Coogan, SNL‘s Bobby Moynihan, and Dana Carvey.
Written by Brian Lynch, Cinco Paul, and Ken Daurio, the voice cast also includes Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Hannibal Buress, and Albert Brooks. The Secret Life of Pets opens in theaters on July 8, 2016. Watch the new trailer below.
