The Shield is one of my all-time favorite TV series.  It's constantly shocking, emotional, darkly comic, intense, and there isn't a weak link in the cast.  If you're a fan of Breaking Bad, you should definitely see The Shield.  Both feature protagonists who do horrible things, lie to everyone, and then tell the biggest lie to themselves by believing that the evil they do is all in service to their families.
