THE SOCIAL NETWORK Named Best Picture by Online Film Critics Society

     January 3, 2011

The Online Film Critics Society (OFCS) have named David Fincher’s The Social Network as the best film of 2010.  This brings the total number of critics’ society awards the film has won to somewhere around “A lot.”  The film also picked up Best Director for Fincher and Best Adapted Screenplay for Aaron Sorkin.  OFCS also agreed with me when it came to picking the best performances of the years, giving awards to Colin Firth (Best Actor, The King’s Speech), Natalie Portman (Best Actress, Black Swan), Christian Bale (Best Supporting Actor, The Fighter), and Hailee Steinfeld (Best Supporting Actress, True Grit).

I finally saw Toy Story 3 last night, and I have to admit, it really is as good as (almost) everyone says. Having said that, The Social Network is still far and away the best film I’ve seen from 2010. I’ve been watching the opening 15 minutes over and over for the past week. It’s just so fuckin brilliant. The score, the colors, the way it’s shot, the dialogue… I can’t get enough of it.

I know everyone loved Inception, and it’s definitely a good film (I don’t often watch movies in the theater more than once), but I can’t say it’s a great film. I didn’t feel any emotional connection whatsoever. Everything just felt so cold and sterile. I think I appreciated it more than I enjoyed it.

Top Ten sure. 2010 has been a considerably week year. But best?? I cant get over how overrated this movie is. Is this the first time people heard good dialog??
