File this one under “I didn’t see that coming.” Via an update on the Nine Inch Nails website, industrial rock icon Trent Reznor claims that he is in the final stages of scoring David Fincher’s Facebook origin story The Social Network. According to Reznor, things are coming together quite nicely (what else is he supposed to say?) and credits Fincher for being instrumental in the process saying, “the level of excellence that David operates on is inspiring and the entire process has been challenging and truly enjoyable.”
About a week ago we brought you the dialogue-heavy teaser trailer which, while subtle, certainly set a somewhat darker tone than Farmville-addicts may have expected. With Reznor writing the score, that tone seems to be confirmed. For more info on The Social Network, hit the jump to see what else Reznor, who has obviously seen the film, has to say about it.
In addition to singing Fincher’s praises, Reznor goes on to say that he was planning on taking some time off following NIN’s latest tour but was compelled to jump on board when he saw what Fincher was planning for the film. “I’ve always loved David’s work but quite honestly I wondered what would draw him to tell that story. When I actually read the script (penned by Aaron Sorkin) and realized what he was up to, I said goodbye to that free time I had planned,” Reznor says.
Finally, Reznor ends his message with a quick endorsement saying that, “speaking of the film…its really fucking good! And dark!” Color me excited. The film, starring Zombieland’s Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg is slated to open on October 1st.

Nnnnnnnnooo, that was Howard Shore.
And before you even say it, Lost Highway was scored by Angelo Badalamenti.
Ya, my bad.
Was thinking, when I originally saw the movie, after the Closer song at the beginning that he had actually did the score.
Doh!!! That's what I get for posting at 3 AM.
Never seen Lost Highway, would like to sometime though, so really nothing to say on that.
