Opening this Wednesday is Walt Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. To promote the film, the studio held a press conference here in Los Angeles with Nicolas Cage, Jay Baruchel, Teresa Palmer, Toby Kebbell, director Jon Turteltaub & Jerry Bruckheimer and they let me videotape it. If you read Collider on a regular basis, you know studios only let you record roundtable interviews/press conferences with audio recorders and not video, so a big thank you to Disney for letting me use my camera.
Also, while I dread attending press conferences as you can almost never get a great conversation going and in turn the interviews suffer, I think you’ll enjoy watching the video as you can see everyone’s reaction answering the questions and you’ll laugh at some of the answers. Press conferences usually don’t translate well to the written page.
As you might expect, they talk about what got them involved in the project, what it was like making the movie, what they have coming up, why it isn’t in 3D, and a lot more. Hit the jump to check it out:
Finally, if you’d like to watch some movie clips from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, click here. And as you watch the video you’ll notice I tried to zoom in on who was talking, so I apologize if the camera work isn’t perfect…

Balthazar Blake is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath. Balthazar can’t do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler, a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protege. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It’ll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes The Sorceror’s Apprentice.
Dave (Jay Baruchel) is just an average college student, or so it appears, until the sorcerer Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) recruits him as his reluctant protégé and gives him a crash course in the art and science of magic. As he prepares for a battle against the forces of darkness in modern-day Manhattan, Dave finds it is going to take all of the courage he can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.”

fantastic very professional Press Conference
Great clip. I may actually check out this flick. Question re the original toon, to anyone that knows… Is Fantasia not the sorcerers apprentice?
I saw Fantasia on video years ago and thought it was crap! It was all music and whales and random clips. Isnt Sorcerers apprentice within that film? Or is there a different fuller animation of the Micky Mouse flick?
Yes, Sorcerer's Apprentice is one of the segments from the film “Fantasia”
This film, “Sorcerer's Apprentice”, is loosely “inspired by” the specific segment. I'm actually looking forward to this movie for some odd reason.
Collider, you made a common mistake for this site. There is no H in Nicolas Cage.
