It's with a giant grain of salt that we report on the possibility of Matthew McConaughey taking on the role of Randall Flagg in writer/director Josh Boone's upcoming four film adaptation of Stephen King's epic novel, The Stand.  I would absolutely love it if this were true, and it may very well be, since McConaughey is currently doing the best work of his career and would absolutely kill in the role of the charismatic, powerfully evil cowboy.  In fact, if you're going to go big and get get names, I can't see why you wouldn't at least go out to him first.

Hit the jump for more on Matthew Mcconaughey possibly playing Randall Flagg in The Stand. Whether or not it happens, it's a good piece of fan casting at the very least.  Warner Bros. should back the money truck up to his house.

A report in The Guardian claims McConaughey is "tipped" to play the role, though I'm not sure what they mean by that.  In talks?  Has an offer?  Is at the top of a list somewhere?  There's no real elaboration here.  Still, it would be great if somehow this rumor manifested itself into truth at some point.

Boone had previously stated:

"I’ll just say we are going to do four movies, and we’re going to do THE STAND at the highest level you can do it at, with a cast that’s going to blow people’s minds. We’ve already been talking to lots of people, and have people on board in certain roles that people don’t know about. We’re looking to go into production next year, maybe in the spring.”

I suppose it is quite possible that McConaughey has been in talks for this for some time, and if that's true whoever is in charge of this particular mystery box has been doing a fantastic job.
