The first season of FX's vampire series The Strain, created by Guillermo del Toro, was a surprisingly fun, completely gross, and occasionally scary entry into the TV horror genre (it was also something very, very different for FX). Its vampires were also a fascinating hybrid: part bloodsucker, part zombie, and part nightmarish creature with a projectile tongue.

The first season saw our ragtag group of heroes getting The Master on the run, but failing to defeat him as his newly created minions continued to infect and turn Manhattanites into creatures of the night. Now in this first full trailer for Season 2 from EW, it seems that Manhattan is overrun, but the survivors are not ready to give up yet:

(FYI: The trailer is on autoplay, and I apologize for that. I can usually defeat it in the code, but couldn't with this one)

Finally using his knowledge of infectious diseases to do something useful, the band's de facto leader, Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) declares that the groups needs to "infect the infected" in order to stop them. That's the opposite of the badass cane-sword fighting techniques that the group's hero, Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) brought to the table in Season 1, but it's also a cool subversion. Fighting with science!

The Master, though, also appears to have some new horrors to unleash, as his #1 minion, Thomas Eichorst (Richard Sammel) reveals that he is undergoing a "wondrous transformation" (i.e. "unimaginably terrifying.")

Never to be defeated, Abraham declares, "I will hunt the Master until the day I die. If that day is today, so be it."

The Strain, which also stars Mia Maestro, Kevin Durand, Jonathan Hyde, Miguel Gomez, Ben Hyland, Natalie Madison-Brown and newcomer Samantha Mathis, returns to FX this summer.
