LIMITED PAPER #6: A Report from the Alamo Drafthouse/Mondo Screening of THE THING; Plus Some Poster-Related ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT News

GALLERY1988 PRESENTS “THERE’S ALWAYS MONEY IN THE BANANA STAND”:  AN ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT TRIBUTE SHOW

We’ve got even more awesome news for you today (yes, it’s Saturday, and yes, we probably should be doing something more relaxing;  thanks for noticing) in the form of the following bits of info from Gallery1988’s Melrose location:  Arrested Development is getting its very own tribute show, and we’ve got some artwork—including the exclusive reveal below—to prove it!  Before we get to that, though, let’s take a look at what Gallery1988 has to say about this brilliantly-conceived gallery show:

Gallery1988 (Melrose) is proud to bring you “There’s Always Money In The Banana Stand,” an art show inspired by the hugely popular and influential sitcom, Arrested Development. Artists from around the world have created paintings, prints, sculptures and one-of-a-kind plush dolls, all celebrating the Bluth family and their storied run on (and soon to be return to) television. The show will open on Friday night, June 29th, with an opening reception 7-10 PM. The show will run through July 21st. The artwork will go online publicly the day after the opening at gallery1988.com.

Whoa.  Now that’s an excellent idea for a gallery show.

As you know, Gallery1988—the geniuses who recently unleashed that Steve Martin tribute show (“Excuuuuuse Meeeeee”) upon an unsuspecting populace—is located out in Los Angeles, so all of the Los Angelinos who felt left out by the Drafthouse/Mondo’s amazing Thing screening now have their very own kick-ass show to lord over out-of-towners this week:  like it says above, There’s Always Money in The Banana Stand will be opening on June 29^th at 7pm.

If you’re a fan of Arrested Development, you probably already know that the show’s on its way back to us via the heroes at Netflix, but it appears that Gallery1988 have beaten them to the punch with this one.  There’s been quite a bit of artwork revealed for the show already, but the first piece we’ve got for you—from artist Doug LaRocca—is a Limited Paper exclusive and captures the many faces of Dr. Tobia Funke, analrapist (take that, spell-check):

As is mentioned above, all of the pieces seen here (including the single non-poster pic at the bottom, which was simply too freakishly adorable for us not to include) will be going on sale at Gallery1988’s Melrose location on the evening of the 29^th, online on the 30^th, and as long as it lasts through July 21^st.  Check out these other pieces we really liked, and keep your eyes peeled for more about this show as it becomes available:

See, what’d we tell ya?  Freakishly adorable, right?  Who wouldn’t want one of those little Funkes to fall asleep with at night (they’re never-nudes)?!  These preview pics are all great, in fact, and I’m so upset that I won’t be able to attend the show that…well, I think I’m just going to have to blue myself.
