We got an early glimpse of the logo at Comic-Con, but Summit Entertainment has released the first poster for Paul W.S. Anderson’s adaptation of The Three Musketeers. It’s a bit on the austere side, but highlights all you need to know.  Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Mads Mikkelsen, Luke Evans, James Corden, Juno Temnple, Freddie Fox, Orlando Bloom, and Christoph Waltz star.  It’s in 3D.  There will be swords.  And old-fashioned guns.  Check out the poster after the jump.

paul_ws_andeson_imageWhen we interviewed him, Anderson commented on his attachment to the material:

“I’m also a big fan of the original book and I’ve loved all the movie adaptations. I think it’s really one of the classic stories. It’s an amazing story, which is why I think it deserves to be retold, and it is retold. Every generation has their Three Musketeers, and I’m very happy that we’re going to be this generation’s Three Musketeers. We’re going to tell it in a slightly different way, but it’s going to be the classic story.

The idea of doing a period movie, some people say, ‘Isn’t it odd that you’re doing a period movie? That’s a change of pace for you.’ And, I’m like, ‘Not really.’ When you’re doing a science fiction movie, it’s almost exactly the same. You have to design every set and you have to design every costume. There’s really so much in common because they’re all about creating a world that the audience can be immersed in. I certainly have the skill set to make a period movie, and I’m very excited to be doing that.”

The Three Musketeers hits 3D theaters on April 15, 2011.  Via Trailer Addict:

One have to be amazed with Academy Award winners of solo awards – upon winning, every single successive movie they star in, will always include that prefix “Academy Award winner” or “Oscar-winning actor/actress”. Can’t take that away – it’s a privilege and they earned it (most of them do).

In this case, it’s Waltz. May help give this movie some added marketing punch.
But I noticed it was quite subtle how they put him in the end – kinda like how Bruce Willis was listed last in Pulp Fiction’s poster. Makes you look and notice – “oh, there’s that guy”.

Too many names at the top, and did anyone else notice it looks a lot like the look of the Sherlock Holmes posters? Not sure what it is, but they both have that same “feel” to them…
