First Trailer for THE THREE STOOGES

     December 7, 2011

Fox has released the first trailer for The Three Stooges, directed by the Farrelly BrothersWill Sasso, Sean Hayes, and Chris Diamantopoulos star as Curly, Moe, and Larry in the new feature, divided into three segments.  It looks awful, but in a fascinating way.  This has been a passion project for the Farrellys and the final result makes me wonder: could The Three Stooges ever work in the present day?  Doesn’t their slapstick seem quaint while their antics come off as obnoxious?  And yet there’s also something mean-spirited mixed in.  I’m sure the Farrellys thought, “Hey!  Let’s poke Snooki in the eyes!  That will put the audience on our side!”  I almost feel sorry for Snooki.  Almost.

The film also stars Jane Lynch, Sofia Vergara, Jennifer Hudson, and Larry DavidThe Three Stooges opens on April 4, 2012.  Watch the trailer after the jump.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Three Stooges:

Left on a nun’s doorstep, Larry, Curly and Moe grow up finger-poking, nyuk-nyuking and woo-woo-wooing their way to uncharted levels of knuckleheaded misadventure. Out to save their childhood home, only The Three Stooges could become embroiled in an oddball murder plot…while also stumbling into starring in a phenomenally successful TV reality show.

Sofia Vergara is so voluptuous and sexy. She’s a very talented actress. She’ll be wonderful in the film.

  • Johan The Felicimo

‘It looks awful, but in a fascinating way. ‘

Truer words have never been said. I dont know how I feel about this yet. Because the trailer did evoke a few laughs from me. But I’m exactly sure where they came from.

    • Daytona

they seem to have the voices down pretty good but i’ll take the real stooges any day…….nobody can ever be as good as curly

  • Farzan

It honestly doesn’t look as bad as it could have been. It could definitely work, but I don’t know if todays audience would ever go for it. I’ll definitely rent it on blu ray

  • Steve

Who is the girl getting out of the pool? Oh my goodness does anyone know?

    • Wladi

Yes plz, who knows who is she?….what a delicious heavenly view…(drooling) =P

      • Cali Kid

That’s the sexy Super model Kate Upton cowboy!

        My girlfriend so back off!

  • Wow

At first I thought this article seemed a bit harsh on the trailer. Then I watched the trailer. Now I agree 100% with the article. That was an abysmal trailer to what promises to be a horrid movie.

  • The Train!

i hate to admit this but i laughed all the way through the trailer. with it, not at it. i don’t know if it can work for 80-90 minutes but it looked surprisingly good to me. maybe it’s because i have had such low expectations for this all along.

  • Oliver

I’ll admit I’m reasonably intrigued with what they’re doing here. There’s certainly nothing like this in the marketplace these days, and I respect them for trying this. So long as the best gags are absent from the trailer i’d expect it to be good

  • Scottybone

I was laughing and I didnt expect to. Might be a funny movie after all!

  • berg

They would have been better off making a period film with the original considered actors; carrey, del toro and sean penn cause at least if that had bombed it still would have at least been worth watching.

  • Josh

People are talking about this trailer like it’s the worst piece of shit they have ever seen. The trailer is actually surprisingly funny, i don’t expect the movie to be great but i didn’t expect the muppets to be great either so who knows but this trailer is far from terrible. But hey i guess thats a matter of opinion

  • KentGeek

Damn! If you thought that trailer looked awful, you have deep psychological issues. Or you’re a girl.

The Farrellys know how to make a funny movie, and boy howdy! do they know how to make a trailer!

  • sense 11

Strange, dont know what to make of this

  • Warpcrafter

It’s worth the price of admission just to see Snookie get the double eye-poke.

  • Kenny B

That I phone gag was so bad.

    I love it

    • Sam

haha so bad…but i rewatched it over and over again. I loved every moment of it

  • Red Pepper

Did anyone else think it just looked too cheap…like a direct to DVD type comedy not a big studio release. Would have been nice if they shot this with a little more flair.

  • Carlos

    not even a chuckle

  • J.R.

First Michael Bay and now this………

    • abel

  • Namer

I think I’ll enjoy it, but it just doesn’t seem like it will be a major hit with modern audiences.

  • Hiro the Eighth Samurai (and 14th Assassin)

Along the lines of what others are saying, this might be so bad, it’s good.

That iPhone gag was so lame, it was funny.

I don’t know if they can sustain it for a whole movie (I think it should have consisted of a handful of shorts), but I did laugh throughout this trailer.

  • flicster

I’m a hardcore, die hard Stooges fan and I’ve had trepidations over the mere thought of this movie ever since I first heard about it years ago, but I have to admit that I chuckled quite a few times during this trailer in spite of myself. In my humble opinion, all 3 stars seem to be doing an amazing job channeling the original guys. Of course this movie won’t be for everyone, but then the original Stooges never were either. Despite being in color and set in the present day, the tone of the movie seems dead on to me and I’m actually really looking forward to it.

If, at the very least, this movie puts The 3 Stooges name back into the spotlight and inspires people to go back and watch the originals again then I think it’s already a success.

  • Jay

Id see this if not only for the genius Larry David playing a nun

  • AlexHeyNa

I must say, I am impressed with their performances.

However, everything else just looks flat out awful.

  • sense 11

Snooki gets a lot worst things in her eyes.

  • terry

God save the children! This movie will get like negative green splats on Rotten Tomato. What a POS!!!!!!!!!!!

The Stooges don’t get enough respect…and this aint helping.

  • nworkman11

This takes place in the f-ing present?! Why??? This movie will be puke. Sad.

  • devin

You know, they actually seem somewhat believable, but I think the movie would have been better if filmed in black and white, or better yet give the audience an option to watch either way.

  • Jay McKells

I’m a big Stooges fan and was ready to hate this… But I “LOL’d” a few times during the trailer, looking forward to this now. The slapstick violence that only the Stooges can bring never gets old!

  • SciFan

Apparently only negative people take the time to comment on the internet.

I laughed during the trailer and look forward to watching this.

If it works, it works. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t.

    Life goes on.

  • Dan J

    The actors seem decent enough.
    The film looks terrible.

  • aaronsullivan

Got to admit I laughed out loud. Like others I don’t know if it can be sustained, but what can I say?

  • Leonardo

Oh Sure, right now some are feeling sory for Snooki but when you watch Jershey Shore everybody wants to kill her.

  • gee boy

  • bobby

Wow, have been waiting to see this movie for ages now. I;ve seen the trailer, and I have to admit, I keep playing it about twice a day and I continue to laugh my butt off. This is going to be a sleeper block buster, so all you negatory people will be eating grow!!!! Ha ha ha!!

I am actually surprised at myself … but I laughed out loud at most of the trailer.

  • Frank

For everyone’s sake lighten up. It looks just great and I am a diehard stooges fan of fifty years. It’s a comedy enjoy it.

  • Frank

Only a real stooges passes negative comment on something they have not seen. This looks like a brilliant homage to three of the most under-rated comedians ever. At last they will receives some long overdue recognition. Clearly the Farrally’s have gone to great pains to do them justice. The trailers are hilarious I laughed until I cry every time I watch them not just for humour but for the nostalgia and wonderful childhood associations. Stop showing your ignorance and give it a go. Will I be there on opening night? Soitenly!

  • LisaA

I grew up with watching the Three Stooges and this movie looks like the Farrelly Brothers did a great job representing their special brand of slap-stick comedy. I watched the trailer and laughed through the whole thing! I will be standing in line to see this movie when it opens on April 13th.
