When you see this trailer for the long-delayed adaptation of "The Time Traveler's Wife", you'll understand why it's been on the shelf for so long--not because it looks bad, but because it's clearly such a tough sell.  Despite being based off a best-selling novel, a dissolving Eric Bana telling Rachel McAdams' as a kid that they're in love is just too prone to mockery.  I mean, what should feel like "Journeyman" by way of "Benjamin Button" instead seems like how a time-traveler would pull pranks or at least how a child or wife would explain their absentee father/husband.  "My husband didn't leave me!  He dissolved into space-time!  I'm Rachel McAdams, dammit!  What man would ever leave me by choice?"

I'm going to hold on to hope for this flick because the premise and the lead performers are too strong to pass up but...yeesh.

Check out the trailer after the jump.  "The Time Traveler's Wife" hits theatres on August 14th.
