New Trailer for THE TOURIST Starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie

Columbia Pictures has released a new trailer for The Tourist, the international thriller which stars Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie.  Depp plays an American on vacation in Paris and Venice who becomes entangled in the web of intrigue spun by the enigmatic Elise (Jolie).  Paul Bettany, Rufus Sewell, and Timothy Dalton also star; Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others) directs.  Hit the jump to check out the new trailer.

The official synopsis:

Johnny Depp stars as an American tourist whose playful dalliance with a stranger leads to a web of intrigue, romance and danger in The Tourist. During an impromptu trip to Europe to mend a broken heart, Frank (Depp) unexpectedly finds himself in a flirtatious encounter with Elise (Angelina Jolie), an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path. Against the breathtaking backdrop of Paris and Venice, their whirlwind romance quickly evolves as they find themselves unwittingly thrust into a deadly game of cat and mouse.

I’m still a bit stuck on Jolie’s accent (any natives care to critique?), but I like the chances for this one.  Seems like one of those films that could be generic that’s livened up by a droll turn from Depp.  We’re clearly working with the Hitchcock cookbook here, and the ingredients seem fresh enough to me: Depp, Jolie, Von Dommersmarck, Bettany, Dalton.  And you can’t go wrong with either Paris or Venice, much less some combination of the two.

That said, this is about how I felt in the weeks leading up to Knight and Day, and that ended up as a minor disappointment in my ledger.  But seriously: Depp > Cruise.

    now i got to check Florian Von Dommersmack’s Lives of Others. I have a copy of it, but i just can’t quite seems to watch it(too many movies, too little time). this will definetly make me watch it.

    also the fact that Dommersmack’s film beat out Pan’s Labyrinth at the Oscars must mean something.(other than politics)

    Only good things can happen with Timothy Dalton in this movie. I hope this film finally enables him to do more mainstream Hollywood movies more often as we see far, far too little of him and that film makers give him a chance and cast him in movies. In addition, I hope that he does more dramas, tries to reach his full potential as an actor and tries to win an Oscar.

    And I just want to say one more thing about Timothy Dalton. Timothy Dalton is probably one of the best British actors of all time and he was a tremendous but sadly underappreciated James Bond while his approach to the role is the most similar to Daniel Craig’s out of all of Craig’s predecessors. I don’t know why, in the last 15 years, no one has given him the chance to show his s**t again. He deserves a second chance. I wish there would be one god damn film maker in Hollywood that would let him fly because the man is something else.

    I don’t like Jolie’s accent either. The script didn’t indicate her character was of any nationality other than English-speaking, so she should have just kept her American accent. But I’m excited to see this film. It’s not Knight & Day (which I actually liked).
