Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon Mock THE DARK KNIGHT RISES in New Clip from THE TRIP TO ITALY

2010′s The Trip didn’t do much for me, although I love the scene where Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon try to find out who can do the better Michael Caine impression.  The sequel, The Trip to Italy, premiered at Sundance this past week, and IFC Films have released a clip where Coogan and Brydon have resumed impersonating the venerable Mr. Caine.  They also use this as an opportunity to poke fun at The Dark Knight Rises and expand their repertoire to impressions of Christian Bale and Tom Hardy.  It’s quite amusing.

Hit the jump to check out the clip.

Via IFC Films.

Also, here’s the scene their mocking if you want to compare Michael Caine’s performance to their impressions:

Here’s the Sundance synopsis for The Trip to Italy:

Michael Winterbottom’s largely improvised 2010 film, The Trip, took comedians Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon—or semifictionalized versions thereof—on a restaurant tour around northern England. In this witty and incisive follow-up, Winterbottom reunites the pair for a new culinary road trip, retracing the steps of the Romantic poets’ grand tour of Italy and indulging in some sparkling banter and impersonation-offs. Rewhetting our palates from the earlier film, the characters enjoy mouthwatering meals in gorgeous settings from Liguria to Capri while riffing on subjects as varied as Batman’s vocal register, the artistic merits of “Jagged Little Pill,” and, of course, the virtue of sequels.

If you’re looking to avoid other people’s opinions, you might want to steer clear of internet message boards…

You might want to look at your own words and try them on for size, considering you have problems with opinions of people who obviously have something to say about someone else’s opinion. Hmm. Sound familiar?
Erroneous Troll- one who thinks their opinion of hating the idea of ‘opinions about opinions’ is the right opinion. Therefor making all other opinions except their opinion erroneous in their mind without realizing they are no different.
Super stoked to see Trip2Italy. Loved the first movie. Though both their caine’s were better in the first judging by this clip.

Well, not sure I was ‘trolling’ anyone…although you do seem sufficiently trolled.
Either way, nothing you said sounds familiar. Sorry.

African: Yo dawg, u’z gotta chill w dat shit. U be aktin like Shermann after da game. Always be jivin against any film bout a honkey.
Caucasion: Why are you such a loud mouth troll? Constantly being negative about everything. It’s like you get joy in getting a negative reaction by acting like a douche.

Haha, Americans are so racist. It’s pathetic.

    • A Truckload of Truth

It’s one of the most insulting idiotic and risible films every made. Nolan is one of the most hackneyed directors working today. He thought he was too good for Batman, despite Batman being the SOLE reason he is a blockbuster filmmaker or why anyone gave two shits about his sloppily written, poorly edited, plothole filled pieces of refried excrement he tries to pass off as films. I hope he burns in hell and dies due to complication that arise during a Clockwork Orange-style invasion of his mansion where he and his brother are raped repeatedly in front of their kids.

Comic book fans like this need put in detainment camps forever, the rest of the normal world doesn’t need them. It’s so sad you are that upset about a movie, it truly, truly is. Psycho.

It was hugely overrated for a movie with that many plot holes.

      • Mixed Race rich kid NYC

        And what plot holes!!!
        The acting was the worst
        Nothing was believable

Holy hyperbole, Batman! Okay it was pretty flawed but unless you’d pretty much only ever seen films that were masterpieces before seeing TDKR, I don’t see how it could qualify as one of the worst.

  • Marissa Evans

Highly entertaining. :) I agree ‘The Trip’ wasn’t all that much (though it works better in the original format, as a short TV series), but this stuff is really funny. Love both these guys.

    I found them quite boring.

Shame on you, Matt. Not only do you post juvenile “Dark Knight Rises” insults in the comments section (not under your own name, though) you have to post stuff like this here. On a Nolan/Dark Knight Rises superfan site, no less.

We need to get back to Collider’s original mission statement: “To discuss, promote, and enjoy the works of Christopher Nolan, in particular his new Batman trilogy of films.” It was good enough when Batman Begins came out, it’s good enough now. Why all this extraneous Sundance coverage? It’s not relevant to Collider’s mission!

      “I don’t even know anymore…”

This would be funnier if they had made jokes that weren’t already done dozens and dozens of times by everyone that’s ever made fun of this movie. Rob Brydon’s Michael Caine is spot on, though.
