Somewhere, an Internet flame war is happening over this story: The crew of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Gates McFadden, Michael Dorn, Denise Crosby, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, and Internet Superstar Wil Wheaton) will be providing guest voices on an upcoming episode of "Star Trek". This is the part where people say "TNG" isn't as good as "TOS" and that "Family Guy" is a rip-off of "The Simpsons" and I sit here and yawn.

Personally, I think this is neat because I like both shows. Neither are works of absolute, earth-shattering brilliance, but they have their moments and I don't begrudge the following of either (although I will say that "Family Guy" was so much better before it got resurrected). The plot of the episode also sounds fun:

"Stewie blows a fuse when he doesn’t get a chance to ask his favorite 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' cast members any questions. He devises a plan, builds a transporter and beams the entire cast to his bedroom so they can spend a fun-filled day together in Quahog."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, news of this cross-over leaked a while back in the blogosphere from one of TNG's former cast members (McFadden!) but now Fox has confirmed and we'll all get to hear jokes about Dyson Spheres on March 29th. Comparing the episode to Futurama's "Where No Fan Has Gone Before" will begin five seconds later.
