The Wachowskis Will Write and Direct the Modern Robin Hood Tale HOOD; In Talks With Will Smith

Here’s a strong early contender for “Coolest News of December”: Andy and Lana Wachowski will write and direct Hood, a “modern, urban take” on the Robin Hood legend.  Naturally, the details of their approach is under tight lock and key at this early stage, though I know instantly I want to see the flight of the arrow through the Wachowski lens.  Heat Vision reports the siblings have begun the recruiting process, with Will Smith near the top of their wishlist.  (You may recall that Smith was offered the role of Neo in The Matrix, but turned it down to star in Wild Wild West.  This is you chance to rectify that unfortunate choice, Mr. Smith.)

After a few years removed from the public eye following my beloved Speed Racer, The Wachowskis now have a series of projects lined up.  As the siblings develop Hood, they will continue to assemble their Iraqi War Film CN-9.  Likewise, they will produce and perhaps direct Cloud Atlas — starring Tom Hanks, Natalie Portman, and Halle Berry — this summer.

I think its set in the modern times. Its essentially a comic book movie concept.

Seriously, we were robbed of a black Captain America…and don’t tell me I’m the only one who thinks that Iron Man 2 wasn’t dumbed down enough…that movie was way to smart for me and the other hicks of modern suburbia that Hollywood takes us for.

Let’s face it in this day and age, nobody wants to see a movie that will engage the mind and make you think *cough* Inception *cough*

Let’s all just agree that if you wanna make a good adaptation there are three things you have to do

Make the lead character gay, even if he/she wasn’t in the source material

Change the third act so that nobody dies, then bring them back for the sequel in which everyone dies, then revive them using some ingenious rule that brings them all back for the third installment b/c lets face it…everyone plans for a trilogy nowadays

AND…hire a brilliant writer/director to craft a way too smart treatment and then fire him and hire either Jimmy Hayward or the dudes that directed Crank to set the bar back down to the retard level we all function at even on our best days

Also it wouldn’t hurt to change genre’s mid story from lets say gritty sci-fi epic to romantic comedy (featuring suicidal vampires of course, did someone say Matthew McConaughey)

        Then everyone will be happy!

This sounds pretty cool. BOUND proves they can do non-sci/fi stuff. And SpeedRacer was a good movie. Visuals that I never had seen before at the time.

Hmmm…sounds like V for Vendetta traded in his knives for a bow.

    Hello no!

‘The Wachowskis’ and ‘cool’ shouldn’t even be in the same sentence unless there is a ‘not’ wedged somewhere between them.

They got really lucky with the first matrix, sorta like Lucas getting really lucky with the first trilogy.

Sounds like a very uncreative “creative reimagining”.

Finally–I’ve been waiting for more “arrow-time” special effects. Why does this have to be based on Robin Hood? It just sounds like socially-minded gang activity: Menace 4 Society?

Speed Racer is also beloved by me and my family. Just sayin’. This movie premise sounds problematic, however.
