Just a little over a month after signing on to direct the pilot episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead companion series, Adam Davidson has two key cast members attached.  It’s being reported that Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam-Carey just snagged roles in the Walking Dead spinoff series, which apparently is also known as Cobalt.  Dillane’s the guy who played 16-year-old Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and he also has a supporting role in Ron Howard’s upcoming release, In the Heart of the Sea.  Debnam-Carey has worked on a number of short films and TV shows in Australia, but this summer’s Into the Storm marked her American movie debut.

Hit the jump to find out more about the plot of the Walking Dead companion series including who Dillane and Debnam-Carey are playing.

The spinoff will take place during the Walking Dead zombie apocalypse, but in a completely different location.  According to Deadline, it’ll focus on a male divorced teacher and a female guidance counselor.  Dillane will play that woman’s son who struggled with a drug problem and Debnam-Carey will step in as his ambitious sister.

Considering plot details are still sparse and we don’t have a thorough sense of what Dillane and Debnam-Carey are capable of, it’s tough to pass judgement just yet, but as someone who’s catching up on The Walking Dead right now and loving every moment of it, I’m eager to see Robert Kirkman and co. explore the situation from a new angle.
