If one of your New Year’s resolutions was to get caught up on every single episode of the phenomenal series The Walking Dead, well you’re in luck. AMC will be airing a marathon of the post-apocalyptic zombie survival series all day, Saturday, December 31st starting at 11AM EST with the pilot, “Days Gone By” and running up through the mid-season finale, “Pretty Much Dead Already.” The 13 episodes, based off of the graphic novel series by Robert Kirkman, will be aired back-to-back with the mid-season finale beginning as the clock strikes midnight to usher in 2012 (the pilot and first episode of season two are each ninety-minutes). Hit the jump for more.

Thanks to THR for bringing the marathon to our attention. If you haven’t been keeping up with The Walking Dead since it started in the fall of 2010, this is the perfect opportunity to get brought up to speed. Not only does it offer up an excuse to plop down in front of the TV for hours, it can act as a crowd-pleasing backdrop to your New Years Eve party. It’s a wonder of a conversation starter when a well-meaning sheriff (Andrew Lincoln) shoots a little girl in the face to start the series. I’m sure it would make a helluva drinking game! If nothing else, watching the marathon should prepare you for what NOT to do in the inevitable event of 2012’s zombie apocalypse (i.e. don’t lower your friend into a well to fish out a bloated undead corpse). In the meantime, get caught up on all of Scott’s previous episode recaps to get a taste of what you’re in for or just to refresh your brains before the series resumes on February 12th. Mmm…brains.
