Chances are good you caught the season four finale of AMC’s The Walking Dead last night, since the record-breaking night netted 15.7 million viewers.  If you need a refresher, you can check out our finale recap and be sure to share your thoughts in the comments section.  Without spoiling anything for those who haven’t seen it, the end of season four was bloody and brutal, with one of the more divisive endings in recent history.  Not everyone made it out alive, but for three cast members who did, they’ll be seeing an expanded role when the show premieres its fifth season this October.  Hit the jump to see who will be returning this fall, and be warned that there are spoilers from last night’s finale.

the-walking-dead-claimed-christian-serratosAs THR reports, season five will see expanded roles for Andrew J. West, Alanna Masterson and Christian Serratos.  Masterson and Serratos play Tara and Rosita respectively, with West playing the very-recently introduced citizen of Terminus, Gareth.  Each of them have been upped to series regulars starting this fall, so that should clue you a bit as to how the plot might progress.  Tara started out as a member of The Governor’s (David Morrissey) group in the first half of season four, then accompanied Glenn (Steven Yeun) in his journey to find Maggie (Lauren Cohan).  Along the way, they ran into Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) and his crew, which included Serratos’ Rosita.  West’s Gareth is currently overseeing a likely group of cannibals living in Terminus, with Rick & Co. trapped in a railroad car.

As for what we can expect to see in season five, here’s series creator, Robert Kirkman:

“Seeing Gareth and Rick and the people of Terminus and our survivors go head-to-head is going to be interesting. There is a very deep, dark and storied history to Terminus and how these people came to be that will be revealed in season five.”

Other relatively recent series regulars include Chad L. Coleman (Tyreese), Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha), Emily Kinney (Beth), Josh McDermitt (Eugene), Lawrence Gilliard Jr. (Bob) and Cudlitz.

So basically everyone who is alive is a series regular now?

    • Guest

Not Abraham, so i guess he’s the one who will die to get the rest out of Terminus.

      • Amanda

makes sense can’t have two ricks, although i hope not because I like Abraham. Is Eugene a regular though?

  • mattinacan

not everyone made it out alive? i am pretty sure everyone made it out alive in one of the most anti-climactic endings ever.

    • jasonbasa

I was about to say the same thing. I have seen more than one review that says something similar. I am fairly certain the author of this article didn’t watch the episode. Brutal??? This was a very mild episode.

      • Liderc

Biting someone’s throat out and the beginnings of a rape of a young boy are mild? lol It’s cable tv, what do you expect? They’ve pushed the limits as far as they are allowed to by the FCC. The episode was somewhat of a letdown in terms of being a finale, but as an episode it was great.

Compared to Too Far Gone and The Grove, this episode was as mild as My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

It seems like the season finales are really anticlimactic and serve only to set up the next season while the mid-season finales actually deliver the goods.

      • Amanda

i think it’s on purpose they do that so that, they can start something brand new right off the bat the next season. it also might be because they keep changing the main show runner, i think

    • LEM

Less climactic than a door opening in season 1?

      • RecoveR

That was episode 5- the season finale of Season One ended with them driving down the road after the CDC blew up.

      • LEM

Damn, I got owned! BUT driving down a road is less climactic too.

      • RecoveR

Haha sorry bout that. And sorry again, but driving down the road might’ve been less climatic, but the CDC story had just wrapped, the point was to (i assume) to make you ask yourself “where are they going to go now?”, “is anywhere safe” or maybe even “Where does this next road lead too” optimism/ pessimism take your pick. (sorry to be like this, gotta have my say haha)

      • LEM

No need to be sorry when you’re right but isn’t the same true of being trapped in the train car and Rick finally accepting who he needs to be in order to survive?

      • RecoveR

I suppose you could say there are many threads to a story. One part where Rick accepts himself, and another where there is a cliff hanger as to what the group are going to do next season, how they are going to get out- or how they are going to survive this threat. But i do see where you are coming from. For example I was always hoping that season 3 would “Book end” the Governor, but the end of Season 3 was also Anti-climatic.

      • LEM

I think they kind of screwed up the Governor and the first half of season 4 gave us the season 3 ending we needed but ending this season on such a down note without giving us much of a glimmer of hope is more anticlimactic than previous seasons.

  • Bronson

I enjoyed last nights episode for what it was. Rick should’ve said F*** instead of screwed. However when him, Carl, Darryl And Michonne were dead to rights I really thought one of them (Not Rick of course) was going to buy it. Walking Dead is a GOOD show. There are times when it’s almost a GREAT show. I want it to be Game Of Thrones GREAT. Excellent all around. I never read the comics so I only watch. But it’s still one of the best shows on TV. Can’t wait for October.

    • Basil Nolan

      EFF > screw

    • Batt Damon

According to Talking Dead Lincoln wanted to use fuck. He only did one take using screw begrudgingly. It’s kinda retarded that they let Rick bite a dude’s throat out and they show Carl about to get raped but they can’t drop a single F-bomb.

      • LEM

EXACTLY THIS. I thought all actors knew to never “do one for safety” because that’s the take they’ll use.

      • RecoveR

This is the thing that bugged me about Breaking Bad too, So much bad shit happens and the worst thing they could say was “shit” and even thats used sparingly. I’d much rather listen to swear words than watch uber-violence, so i dont understand shows that do that. AMC needs to go straight up HBO style. Thats the only way to make The Walking Dead better. The line didn’t sound as hokey in the comics because it didn’t feel filtered.

      • Batt Damon

I don’t know if they need to go full HBO and cram nudity into every episode just for the sake of it but some leniency would go a long way

      • LEM

AMC can’t be OK with a man attempting to rape a young boy and then say no to saying Fuck occasionally.

      • RecoveR

Actually i didn’t even consider nudity for this show, its just not important to the show, i mean its had its fair share of soft nudity (andrea w/ governor) etc. But as LEM said- “Fuck” isn’t bad compared to seeing a boy almost get ass raped. Also having characters that swear make them seem alot less “tame” and abit more wild. If i saw a zombie munching someones guts out i’d be like “Fuckkk man that’s sick” or whatever. But nope- in this world you can rape a boy, but you just can’t tell him you’re gonna fuck him haha

      • Batt Damon

      • Amanda

i believe that Kirkman or whoever it was on there with Lincoln said they went with screw because of the FCC or that parents one i think. Which is kind of ridiculous considering the violence in the episode obviously got the okay.

    • LEM

I made a similar comment about how it’s a show that could be great but settles for being good and I got thumbs downed into oblivion.

      • Bronson

It isn’t like we’re saying the show sucks and that we’re trolling. We love the show and it’s good. However it could go to that next level of greatness like ‘Thrones. Maybe next season. I do enjoy that the show is showing more of a human threat now. I mean it’s always going to be about the Walkers. Sometimes, I enjoy the human threat more because, these people before everything happened were probably rational or scumbags who didn’t fit in.

    • Spanky

It will never get anywhere close to quality of shows like Game of Thrones unless they clear out 95% of the cast with REAL actors and replace the writers with some that have a clue how to write characters, dialogue, and proper story arcs…

The show just simply isn’t in the same class, on a certain level it can be just as good in the dumb entertainment category, but that’s as far as it gets, comparison cannot be made… especially with an HBO show

      • Bronson

It would be cool if they can get other writers for episodes. Have Stephen King,Neil Gaiman write some episodes. I’m trying not to read ahead for spoilers but there’s supposed to be another human threat.

      • paul h

I think the comics/tv are different that you can read the comics & not get spoiled too much.

I hope some smart zombie will drop a nuclear bomb a blow up all these actors.
