THE WALKING DEAD Series Premiere Rakes in Huge Ratings

Though my review was glowing, complimentary and full of praise, it looks like the real reward for the premiere of AMC’s brand new series The Walking Dead came in the form of outstanding ratings with its Halloween debut. THR is reporting that the near-feature-length opener attracted a whopping 5.3 million viewers and a 3.3 rating amongst the most coveted demographic of adults aged 18-49. Apparently that’s the largest demographic draw from any series premiere on any of the cable networks for the entire year. And if that wasn’t good enough, the series premiere was also the highest rated premiere for any series in AMC’s original programming history.

AMC’s Senior Vice President of original programming says, “The Walking Dead is that rare piece of programming that works on so many levels. It is legitimately great storytelling that is not only highly entertaining, but incredibly thought provoking as well. People who are familiar with the comic books know what’s coming, but suffice it to say, this is only the beginning of a long, intense, and powerful ride. Long live The Walking Dead.” That’s what I’m talkin’ about! It sounds like AMC is has quite a huge hit on their hands, and unless something goes drastically wrong, or a zombie apocalypse actually spreads across the country, it’s very likely we’ll get plenty more seasons of The Walking Dead in the future.

It deserves every but of kudos it gets. Really strong opening and I hope the show remains as true to the comic as we move forward. I was actually impressed how faithful and how incredibly watchable it was.

The ending was AMAZING. “Hey you. Dumbass. Yeah, you in the tank. Cozy in there?”

I was seriously frightened at the end. The show did start a bit slow but it built up pretty quickly, it is usually hard to get into a show by the first episode but I can’t wait for ep. 2 already.

As long as Darabont keeps rewriting it as he goes along, sounds good to me. First two trades were solid, then off the rails it goes.

Really? I’m looking forward to see a lot of the arcs from the books play out in the series. Especially Books 5, 6, and 8-11 that’s all going to make for some pretty amazing content! I agree that Darabont is doing a nice job with his rewrites so far.

28 days later is so overrated.

Yeah The Walking Dead stole that opening and totally owned it. The first episode was way better than 28 Days Later.

This is excellent news. Honestly I’ve watched TWD twice so far and the show is more than I could’ve hoped for. Currently my favorite zombie anything, ever. Long live Frank Darabont.
