New Image from THE WOLVERINE Featuring Hugh Jackman [Updated with Additional Image from the Editing Room]

     February 20, 2013

20th Century Fox has released a new image from director James Mangold’s (3:10 to Yuma) upcoming sequel The Wolverine.  It’s not as intense or suave as the past couple of images that have been released, but we do get a peek at Hugh Jackman’s titular character looking slightly annoyed while out on the streets of Japan at night.  We’ll finally be seeing some footage from the pic next month as the first trailer is due to be released in March, possibly in theaters attached to G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

For now, hit the jump to take a gander at “Squinty Wolverine.”  The film also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Svetlana Khodchenkova.  The Wolverine opens in 3D on July 26th. [Update: Mangold shared an image from the editing room last night, and that's now included after the jump as well.]

Late night on @thewolverine. Here is my POV from a couch behind editor Mike McCusker. Last reel.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Wolverine:

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

Now look, I’m excited for this as the next guy, and I do like these photos, but can we please get a first look at some other characters like Will Yun Lee as The Silver Samurai? Pretty Please?

  • Mars

    This movie is gonna SUCK.

  • Fede

why is the trailer taking so long?. What the hell man!

    • Doug

I felt the same way, but then I thought about it – this movie isn’t due until almost August and there is nowhere near the buzz on it as there was on something like Man of Steel, Avengers, or The Dark Knight Rises. Better to wait until it’s a little closer to deliver a killer trailer and keep it fresh in people’s minds through the spring and summer. Although a teaser of hearing Hugh Jackman say, “Am I worthy now, Shingen?” a la the first Dark Knight teaser back in 2007 would have been sweet.

The Wolverine and X-Men : Days Of Futures Past are going to awesome! All 5 X-Men films have been awesome so far.

I’ll have to stop you there I’m afraid. Ratner’s X3 cooked sock and Wolverine was mediocre. Other than that, carry on.

      • Dan

As cheesy as X3 was I still prefer it over X-Men Origins: Wolverine. At least X3 gave us some cool moments. Wolverine was horribly written. Adamantium bullets, useless characters, and the worst interpretation of Deadpool ever conceived.

That image is great. They totally captured the “Logan sneer” from the comics. I have high hopes for this one. Hoping it looks as good in action with the first trailer.

Give me a damn trailer, please!
