12 High-Resolution Images from THE WOLVERINE Featuring Hugh Jackman, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Svetlana Khodchenkova

     April 19, 2013

20th Century Fox has released a batch of high-resolution images from director James Mangold’s upcoming sequel The Wolverine.  The film finds Hugh Jackman’s titular character isolated in modern day Japan where he faces his ultimate nemesis “in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.”  We recently got a look at the character in action by way of two trailers, but these images give us a closer (and clearer) look at the environment that Mangold has cooked up for the Japan-set story.  We’ve seen a few of these images before in lower resolution versions, but there are also some new peeks at The Wolverine in action, including a rather impressive chain wrangling.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Svetlana Khodchenkova.  The Wolverine opens on July 26th.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Wolverine:

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

From the trailers, like Iron Man 3, this movie looks incredibly lame and boring. It doesn’t help that the female cast are very unpleasing to look at.

This is the reason why Hollywood whitewash…

Wolverine is supposed to have ABS.
    And a MASK. And …

I’m just picturing the Studio Board Meeting, where someone chimed in:

“In order to tell a human story, we should take away his powers. Just a little.”

Now, spend the ENTIRE movie focusing on explaining that , to please the boss little studio filmmaker.

I agree, I wonder what Aronovsky would’ve had in store. I can’t imagine he’d roll with the manic-panic goth girl sidekick plotline. OR the waif-ish blonde insert-unknown possibly unoriginal original character here.

He probably wouldn’t have been cool with Hugh Jackman getting shirtless, either.

I LOVE Chris Claremont (original writer of all the great classic X-men & Wolverine arcs) quote: “The trouble with Wolverine is his appeal lies in his mystery. The more you explain about him, the less interesting he gets.”

I think we’ve discovered the TRUE Wolverine’s superpower. And these movies are like … his kryptonite. Amiright? =D
All they needed to do to re-boot this was have an establishing shot of him in Japan. No reference to how he got there. And show him fighting ninjas, maybe Silver Samurai.

No sidekick. No laboratory. No Yakuza king’s daughter and No.. Jean.. Grey.

Hell. I’d have been overjoyed if they could’ve somehow lit the shot so you couldn’t even tell who the actor was, exactly.

P’shaw to all this. All we saying is, give another actor a chance! (Jackman was interesting as a no-name skinny guy in X-men 1. As a world-class broadway loyal actor, looking for any opportunity to take his shirt off …. slightly less interesting.)

I think it would be so much better if instead of doing cg claws if he had some sort of claw that he could grip and then use cg to hide the gripped part. Every pic that has claws looks so fake it’s just pathetic. I think Jackman is still a cool looking Logan, almost like a Byrne version but it would be sweet to see another actor step in and do a Jon J Muth-type Wolverine.
