New Trailer for THE WOLVERINE Starring Hugh Jackman

     May 21, 2013

A new trailer for James Mangold‘s The Wolverine has gone online.  The film finds Hugh Jackman’s titular character isolated in modern day Japan where he faces his ultimate nemesis “in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.”  This new trailer goes heavy on the drama by showing Logan’s guilt over killing Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) in X-Men: The Last Stand, and why he would consider getting rid of his powers.  This trailer also shows off the strange mix of ancient Japanese warriors and hi-tech sci-fi; a combination that is best represented by the hulking Silver Samurai.  But if Wolverine can shield a guy from what appears to be a nuclear blast, then a giant robot samurai shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto, and Svetlana KhodchenkovaThe Wolverine opens in 3D on July 26th.

Didn’t really get my attention until the robotic Silver Samurai; as that looked like the only new footage other than the lady licking a scalpel.

I know this will be a good movie but I can’t tell if it will be like Iron Man where it’s surprisingly great, or like Batman Returns where it’s good but forgettable. Rootin for the latter.

    • Phil

You’re rooting for this movie to be good but forgettable?

    • brNdon

Haha. You should look up the word latter.

    • Grayden

which Iron Man are you referring to again? the first one?

‘The wolverine’ is going to be awesome, the movies this Summer so far have all been shit. ‘Batman’ (1989), and ‘Batman Returns’ are awesome, the last official Live action Batman films. Last official Batman films are ‘Batman – Mask Of The Phantasm’ and ‘Batman & Mr. Freeze – Subzero.’

This and last (Wondercon?) trailer both have me excited for this flick. Cool to think of how he will be if he loses his healing factor and is way more vulnerable.

This film must be leading directly into Days of Future Past, with Logan mourning Jean. The next two films must be following Last Stand where as Origins and First Class were separate films.

    • Bob

First class is not a seprate film….the characters from First Class are the main characters haha.

Wolverine straight to Redbox. Pacific Rim, World War Z, Man of Steel; CAN’T WAIT.

    • mmmGadgets

Pacfic Rim, check. Man of Steel, check. World War Z….meh.

  • Ashtalon

I’m remaining slightly optimistic for this one. Been disappointed in the summer tentpoles so far. Hopefully this film doesn’t follow that trend.

    • Joe

Agreed! So far the summer mega hits have been damp squids. Lets hope it picks up immediately.

  • Ancalagon

Cautiously optimistic. Wolverine vs samurai and ninjas can’t be horrible, right? Even if it doesn’t succeed at going deeper (it looks to be at least trying to delve into his character) and ends up being just a “dumb” action flick, the action looks pretty good.

  • Matt

I was okay until the mandatory “hero fights monster three times bigger than he is” finale shot. That plot idea needs to die a horrible fiery death.

Chris Claremont (writer of definitive first WOLVERINE limited series for Marvel): “The Problem with Wolverine is, the more you explain about him, the less interesting he becomes. His whole appeal is his mystery.” Whoever’s making these movies ought to listen to advice from the guys who created these iconic characters.

Marvel: 7/8 (discounting IM2) Fox: LOSING

All we are saying is give someone who isn’t Hugh Jackman a chance.
