Domestic Trailer for THE WOLVERINE

     March 27, 2013

The international trailer for director James Mangold’s sequel The Wolverine was released about a half-hour ago, and now the domestic version is online.  The film finds Hugh Jackman’s titular character isolated in modern day Japan where he faces his ultimate nemesis “in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.”  The U.S. trailer contains new footage, and while I think the international version is slightly better, both trailers hammer home the “life-or-death battle”. The big difference is that the U.S. version reveals the man offering Wolverine a chance at mortality.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Svetlana Khodchenkova.  The Wolverine opens on July 26th

Here’s the official synopsis for The Wolverine:

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

    Looks good

I know my comment wasn’t nice but why erase it?

No wonder Arnovsky left when they decided to forget about the orginal comic and go Orgins on the movie. The only thing left from the Clermont/Miller comic is the setting and maybe a few characters. I’m not a comic fanboy but it was a great source material and if they decided to pass on it it only means some really uncompetent people are behind the movie.

youw ant a direct copy go read the GN this is called an adaption a real and smart director would respect the material but bring their own original voice and spin to an over 30 year old graphic novel

I agree that adaptations don’t have to be slavish to the source material, but I’m not sure how the original story even fits in here. The premise is definitely cool, though, don’t get me wrong. I hope they do it like the original Genosha storyline – also Claremont – where they take away Logan’s powers and he starts dying from adamantium poisoning.

      • Faiz

At one juncture i saw an image from this movie that sees Hugh jackman’s claw getting back to bones, was that owing to the effect of the serum injected by the Yakuza boss?

It’s gonna be disappointing seeing Wolverine waning in strength and mind because if they wanted the humanistic side to the hero that way, it wouldn’t work..

and am i the only one who lolled when Viper showed his face and Wolverine just screamed like a baby? Seriously, the editing was horrendous.

it was overall a pedestrian trailer. That said tho’ the scenes where Logan was surrounded by Ninjas as well as the train fight were pretty cool. Hopefully they’ll make up a huge chunk of the movie’s action bit.

      • Norbert

I don’t want the original story. TDK wan’t the original story. I’m not a fanboy. I bought the story because I’ve heard Arnovsky praising it as great source material and I saw why. I just thought it was a great BASE for an interesting movie.

This isn’t bringing their own voice. This is claiming it’s based on something when its connection to the comic is as strong as the orins story. They only took japan and a few characters and used more stereotypes than even Michael Bay can think of.

Not to mention why the hell reference older movies? It’s a cheap shot and everyone wants to see Jackman anyway.

this looks like it has the potential to be up there with dark knight and daredevil and one of the best character based comic movies. hells yeah aronofski! can’t wait.

    • Gambit

You do know that Aronofsky is not directing this, right?

    • Action Movie Fanatix

Did you really just put The Dark Knight and Daredevil in the same category???

      • Nmaster

Apparently the daredevil Directors Cut is a far superior film (less fun, awkward times with elektra & more daredevil hell kitchen).
        So long as you don’t mind Ben Affleck ;-}

      • Great white hype

The directors cut of Daredevil still sucked. It still contained all of the cringe worthy parts and lets just say Coolio has a huge role in the deleted scenes. Remember Coolio?

    • Rob Hatton

Hey, if The Dark Knight and Daredevil are what Joe John considers great comic movies, then so be it. Why must you people mock that?

      • ScaredForMovies

I would say he has got off pretty easy so far.

  • Joroelcapo

I like Hugh as Wolverine but this movie looks mediocre and generic.

  • Peter

Fuck you, Mangold! You ruined Johnny Cash and now you’ve ruined Wolverine!

    • Anon

If Wolverine can be ruined by a movie, than believe me, X-Men Origins already did it.

  • Pragmator

I’m loving what I’m seeing in this trailer. Now looking forward to this movie.

  • Nmaster

Aronofski left bc of an ugly divorce with rachel weiss & he needed 2 stay in the us 2 avoid losing his child…

Otherwise i agree on the adaptation issue: 4 those of u who arent comic book fanboys, theres a reason why we h8 poor adaptations..
Some comic books are pure genius, defying the very definitions of genre storytelling (like TDK, but on page) – no one wants 2 c a rehash of lonely no 1 gets me (meet bad guys – train fight seq, etc). Its the reason aronofski signed on 2 his 1st big studio production – the story..

    • Truth

They were never married, only engaged.

  • Stinky

Does anyone remember Superman 2 when he gave up his powers? Uh-oh.

    • Griz

      Yeah, but did that movie have a fight scene on a moving train? . . . . . . Wait, it did? . . . . DAMN IT!

  • Rob Hatton

Its taken 13 years, two terrible sequels (The Last Stand & X-Men Origins) to finally give Hugh Jackman The Wolverine film he deservers.

    • Nah

Hugh Jackman doesn’t deserve to be Wolverine. He ain’t got the grit, bub.

      • Robert Hatton

Who would you have play Logan? 82 year old Clint Eastwood.

  • Scott Summers

When am I going to get my movie?……. Logan is such an asshole!

  • Dwayne Adkins

Looks very good! and like were getting back to the real Wolverine. As a fan of this the most awesome Marvel Superhero ever going back to reading the comics in the 80s era, I was really frustrated with the last movie which actually messed up Dead Pool more than it did Wolverine. Now this looks like the Logan I know….can’t wait to see it. Good job gang…can’t wait.

  • MJ

It the teaser Silver Samurai shows up, in the trailer they cut it out. How strange

  • terry

It looks, like a total, syrupy melodramatic mess. If this is what was done in the comics then forgive me because I don’t read comic books.
