Here’s a piece of news that is undeniably off the chain. After years of waiting and months of teasing, director Edgar Wright is set begin filming The World’s End with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost this September. The third entry in the so-called “Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy” that began with the zombie flick Shaun of the Dead and continued with the action-leaning Hot Fuzz has been promised for a long time now, and this past January Wright and Pegg revealed that they were “hard at work” on the film’s script. Pegg recently wrapped J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel, and earlier today tweeted that he’s moving straight into Frank Darabont’s L.A. Noir TV pilot, after which he’ll “be an author again,” followed by a job involving “plasma and gelato.”

Per Deadline, Working Title is teaming with Universal on the project and the plan is to start filming this September for a Spring 2013 release date. The logline is as follows:
“20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.”
It appears that a supernatural/world-ending element is included in the mix, which is very enticing given the talent involved. After the success of Hot Fuzz, Pegg and Frost wrote and starred in the sci-fi comedy Paul while Wright directed the instant cult classic Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Wright has written a script with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) for Ant-Man, which he’s attached to direct direct, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has been saying that the project “is closer than its ever been.”
Many believed that Ant-Man was the untitled Marvel film slated for release in 2014 and that Wright would make the superhero pic his next film, but it appears he’ll be tackling The World’s End first. This is fine by me. I’m elated to have any Edgar Wright project on the horizon (he’s also attached to direct Johnny Depp in The Night Stalker), but the reunion of Wright, Pegg and Frost is icing on the Blood and Ice Cream cake.

Well, I also enjoyed Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead… but was hoping that Wright’s Ant-Man was going to be at the top of his list.
so what happened with the ANTMAN tease on twitter? DAMN WRIGHT! DO THAT FIRST! MARVEL MIGHT TAKE SOMEBODY ELSE IF YOU DON’T DO IT!
Seeing as this movie won’t take long to make, he could move-on to Ant-Man as soon as he’s done with The World’s End. Also he’s been trying to get Ant-Man made since 2007, I don’t think he’ll let it go to someone else that easily.
I agree. I’m sure the Worlds in will be great, but I was really looking forward to antman…
