Principal photography has wrapped on Edgar Wright‘s upcoming film, The World’s End.  Co-written with Simon Pegg, The World’s End marks the final chapter in the informal “Blood & Ice Cream” Trilogy.  The story centers centers on five childhood friends (played by Pegg, Nick Frost, Eddie Marsan, Paddy Considine, and Martin Freeman) going through an epic pub crawl in order to reach the fabled pub, “The World’s End”.  But as they make their way to the pub, they discover that the fate of humankind is on the line.  To mark the end of shooting, Pegg has tweeted the first image from the film, which shows the lead cast members, and how Pegg’s character may not be the most successful of the bunch.  You can also see how the costumes line up with these set photos that show the child-versions of the characters.

Here’s the official synopsis for The World’s End:

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

  1. aka, “Elvis Costello, Martin Carthy, Ian Anderson, John Doe, and Robert Fripp Walk Into a Bar”.

Seriously, though, based on that photo, sign Pegg up right now for the biopic of Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson. He looks a spitting image for mid-70s Anderson there. (I realize the commercial demand probably isn’t there for an Anderson biopic, but there should be.)

Oh, and Freeman for the Robert Fripp biopic, please.
