We have a few casting notices of the female persuasion this fine evening. First up: Abigail Spencer (Mad Men) has signed on for a role in This Means War. She joins Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, Tom Hardy, and Angela Bassett. The storcy centers on “two best friends (Pine and Hardy), who are also covert agents, that fall in love with the same woman (Witherspoon), setting in motion a battle between spies for the woman’s heart.” According to Heat Vision, Spencer plays Hardy’s ex-wife; Bassett plays his boss. The comedy, directed by McG (Terminator Salvation), is currently shooting in British Columbia.
Hit the jump for more casting news on three TV pilots: HBO’s Veep, FX’s Wilfried, and TNT’s Perception.
Deadline reports Anna Chlumsky (In the Loop) will star opposite Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the HBO comedy pilot Veep. Veep revolves around former senator and Selina Meyer (Louis-Dreyfus), who has become the vice president. Chlumsky is her “responsible and insecure chief of staff Amy.” Chlumsky was one of the many elements of In the Loop that left me impressed after my first viewing — glad to see her reuniting writer/director Armando Iannucci, creator of Veep.
Over on FX, Dorian Brown (Roommates) will replace Andrea Savage as one of the leads on Wilfred, an adaptation of the Australian comedy of the same name. Elijah Wood stars as Ryan, “an introvert who struggles to find social and professional happiness, until he meets “Wilfred” (Jason Gann)… part Australian Shepherd, part Russell Crowe on a bender.” Brown will play Ryan’s older sister in the delightfully odd-sounding comedy.
Lastly, Kelly Rowan (The O.C.) has signed on to star opposite Eric McCormack in TNT’s Perception. McCormack is Dr. Geoffrey Pierce, “an eccentric and brilliant university professor in neuropsychiatry who helps the FBI solve complex cases.” Rowan will play Pierce’s “best friend and intellectual equal.”
