Disney has released a new TV spot for Thor: The Dark World. The film finds Chris Hemsworth’s Thor squaring off against the villainous dark elf Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston). Recent reshoots added more Loki (Tom Hiddleston), and I’m sure we’ll see him play a more prominent role in the marketing. He doesn’t dominate this trailer, but it opens with him teaming up with Thor. Sure, it’s dramatic when the hero needs to reunite with his villain, but Marvel knows Loki’s popularity, and it’s also slightly harder to sell a new baddie. Better to go with the smiling, charming, duplicitous guy everybody loves.
Hit the jump to check out the TV spot. The film also stars Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo, and Anthony Hopkins. Thor: The Dark World opens in 3D on November 8th.
Here’s the official synopsis for Thor: The Dark World:

Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.
