Thor and Hulk haven’t always had the best relationship. The giant green rage monster threw the sucker-punch seen around the world in The Avengers, but it looks like they’ll bury the hatchet (hopefully not in each others’ backs) in Thor: Ragnarok. While Mark Ruffalo described the third installment of these standalone films as a buddy movie between the heroes, the actor recently went into further detail and called it a road trip movie.

Obviously they won’t be piling into a car on their way across America to Wally World — although, how great would that be? In fact, Ruffalo cited Midnight Run in describing the film to Empire magazine.

There’s a little bit of Midnight Run, with [Charles] Grodin and [Robert] De Niro…I feel like that’s kind of where we’re heading with this relationship between Thor and Banner…It is a universal road movie – that’s where we’re heading…It’s not where you'd think it will be, so it’s not your classic road movie but it has that structure, I think.

So, a road trip across the Nine Realms, perhaps? Ruffalo said he hasn’t read the script, but that it’s what the crew is talking about. So, if that’s the case, count us in. While The Dark World showed more of the universe in a plot involving Malekith, Ragnarok implies that we’ll see even more of these worlds. The title takes its name from the Norse end of days, and in the comics it similarly involves the rising of dead spirits to mark the apocalypse. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor’s vision teased hell, or rather Hel, one of the realms reserved for the dead. One would assume this’ll play some sort of role.

Meanwhile, Ruffalo continued by teasing the film’s comedic elements.

I love Chris [Hemsworth], and it’s not an accident that we’ve been put together because we have a good time together and we goof off. The fact that we’re moving towards the smart-comedic bent plays into our relationship.

Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled for release on November 3, 2017.
