With the post-Avengers bump, Thor: The Dark World grossed $633 million worldwide, a 40% increase on Thor‘s $449 million total.  That is sufficient reason for Marvel to follow up on the cliffhanger at the end of The Dark World in a sequel.  Variety reports the studio has hired Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost to co-write Thor 3.  No plot details are known at this time, but Chris Hemsworth is expected to return.  Kyle and Yost’s first writing credits are for the animated series X-Men: Evolution.  Yost worked on the Thor 2 script while Kyle worked his way up to senior VP of production and development at Marvel Studios.

This comes on the heels of the announcement that the Russo brothers are in early negotiations to return for Captain America 3.  Hit the jump for a look at all the Marvel movies on the calendar.

Here is the list of projects we know for sure:marvel-studios-logo

Marvel has also locked up two dates in 2016 and one in 2017.  Those could go to Thor 3, Captain America 3, Iron Man 4, a new Hulk movie, or something knew like Doctor Strange or Black Panther.  Rest assured, Marvel has planned its slate through 2021, so they will eventually get to all the projects you desire.

Weren’t we told that there’d be no Iron Man 4? Or am I getting confused. Either way, I wouldn’t mind seeing it. The more RDJ, the better

    • Nerdgasm

Yeah at this moment he’s being paid 100 Million for Avengers 2 and 3. Unless something changed….

    • SicSemper_Tyrannis

There will be, but without RDJ.

      • JBug

I know the current status is he’s not doing more single outings, but I think he’ll sign on for more.

      • SicSemper_Tyrannis

Chance is you are right, but I Think RDJ really is tireing of the character, and in the end there is only so much Money you can give a guy Before he stops even caring.
We WILL get a IM 4, but not before Avengers 3, because Marvel will re-cast the roll, but not until they can no longer use RDJ, and he has agreed to to A3.

I can recall reading that Marvel has already decided that they will do a Iron Man 4, and even if that should be just a rumor, it’s a true rumor, because otherwise Marvel/Disney would be financial idiots, and if it is something Disney are not, it is financial idiots.

Personally, however, I would have preferred a different approach. I would have Tony Stark die a heroes Death in A3, defeating the villain through sacrificing himself, thus forever staying the Invincible Iron Man.

THEN I would have the US government of MCU pardoning Justin Hammer in Exchange for him creating a new Iron Man through developement of whatever Stark-technology they could provide him. Then have Hammer choosing to don the armor and name himself. Think of the possibilities for drama when, f ex, he has to redeem himself, while the other Avengers thinking of him, and treating him, as the grave-robber of their fallen comrade…

just imagine if all those titles listed were done by marvel studios… what a world that would be

I would like to put a little request in to Marvel please:

Can you please not make it utterly shit like Thor 2?

    • Faptain America

yeah I don’t know why they allowed Thor 2 to suck so bad. I was expecting a big Thor vs. Kurse battle or something more than just scene after scene of Darcy and that other intern. Why so much comedy?

      • Norrtron

Scene after scene of Darcy? She was in Thor 2 less then she was in the first one.

      • Faptain America

I just can’t believe that there were fewer minutes of Darcy in Thor 2 than Thor 1. But even if so, that whole intern for intern thing distracted from freakin’ Thor! Thor should save the world, not naked Selvig, not nameless boy intern, not Jane, not Darcy.
Also, keeping the bodacious Kat Dennings in all those hoodies and glasses was a total missed opportunity. Why not have the Aether possess her? Turn her into a ravishing beauty in a plunging neckline red dress who seduces Thor and makes Jane jealous? Maybe Loki casts a spell on her. I dunno, put that curvaceous bombshell to good use!!

Agreed. Visually, it was pretty garbage as well. At least the movie had a little more heart than MoS.

  • Rukia

    More Sif, less Jane.

  • Marineboy

Is it too much to ask for some new heroes to take centerstage? 2 Thor films in 4 years (excluding the Avengers) is enough. Isn’t it time for: Silver Surfer? Nova? Namor? Iron Fist? Ms. Freakin Marvel!!?? :)

    • doctor_robot

      shit… be patient, dude.

      • Marineboy

But really, another Thor film? Already?

      • Faptain America

I’d much rather see a good Hulk film, at this point. Maybe once things get all spacey-cosmosy after GotG and Avengers 2 we can have Planet Hulk.

Three years apart doesn’t seem like “already” to me.
