New THOR and GREEN LANTERN Movie Images

by     Posted: July 15th, 2010 at 4:02 pm

With Comic-Con next week, get ready to be hit over the head with tons of new images and video for some of the biggest movies of next year.  Yesterday we posted the first image of Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Tom Hiddleston as Loki in Marvel’s Thor. Then, earlier today, we posted the first image of Ryan Reynolds in his Green Lantern costume.

And we’re not even close to done.

That’s because a few people have started to get this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly and have scanned some of the other new images from Thor and Green Lantern.  So hit the jump to check out what else got released.  Included is our first look at Peter Sarsgaard as scientist Dr. Hector Hammond, Angela Bassett as Amanda Waller,Tim Robbins as Senator Robert Hammond, and Blake Lively as Carol Ferris.

While I think some of these Green Lantern images are using photoshop to the extreme, I’m still very excited for the film and can’t wait to see some footage next week.  I never judge anything on images…I always wait till I see footage.  Lest we all forget Iron Man.

So…what do you all think about the images?  (via SHH Forums and ifanboy)

Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. Here’s the synopsis for Green Lantern:

Bringing the enduringly popular superhero to the big screen for the first time, “Green Lantern” stars Ryan Reynolds (“X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) in the title role, under the direction of Martin Campbell (“Casino Royale”).

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Campbell directs “Green Lantern” from a screenplay by Greg Berlanti & Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg, story by Greg Berlanti & Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim, based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics.

The film also stars Blake Lively (upcoming “The Town,” TV’s “Gossip Girl”) as the spirited Carol Ferris, a test pilot and the heir apparent to her father’s aviation company; Peter Sarsgaard (“An Education,” “Flightplan”) as scientist Dr. Hector Hammond; Mark Strong (“Sherlock Holmes”) as Sinestro, Jordan’s powerful mentor in the Green Lantern Corps; Jay O. Sanders (“Revolutionary Road”) as Carl Ferris, Carol’s aircraft designer dad; Temuera Morrison (“Star Wars” Episodes II and III) as Abin Sur, Jordan’s alien predecessor; Taika Waititi (TV’s “The Flight of the Conchords”) as flight navigator Tom Kalmaku, Hal’s good friend and confidante; Academy Award® nominee Angela Bassett (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”) as enigmatic government scientist Amanda Waller; and Academy Award® winner Tim Robbins (“Mystic River”) as Hector’s influential father, Senator Robert Hammond.

The film is being produced by Donald De Line (“The Italian Job”) and Greg Berlanti (upcoming “Life As We Know It”). Herbert W. Gains and Andrew Haas serve as executive producers. Geoff Johns and Lucienne Papon are co-producing.

The film’s behind-the-scenes creative team is led by a number of Academy Award® winners, including director of photography Dion Beebe (“Memoirs of a Geisha”), production designer Grant Major (“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”), and costume designer Ngila Dickson (“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”), as well as Oscar®-nominated editor and longtime Campbell collaborator, Stuart Baird (“Gorillas in the Mist,” “Superman”). The film’s visual effects are being overseen by Oscar®-nominee Kent Houston (“The Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen,” “Casino Royale”).

The film is currently scheduled for release in 3D and 2D on June 17, 2011. “Green Lantern” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. ‘

  1. Can't wait for the movie to come out, let alone a first trailer to get my hopes up a tad bit higher. I hope they can pull this off great:D

  2. Hm, it's that there's an interesting combination of actors, otherwise I would have a lot less interest in these movies…
Not to be all pessimistic, but I don't see much to be excited about. XD
Guess cause I just don't know/like the characters or something.
Plus the whole… fantasy-thing that goes on with these stories, the hammer of Thor and the ring of the Green Lantern…
I mean, how can this turn out to be not cheesy even if you make it all dramatic and dark or whatever?
I mean, yeah, existing movies like 'Iron Man' and such are fantasy, but that was a bit more grounded in raw reality, and these are taking it a step beyond that, with the powers and such things.
I don't like it to be honest, it's too weird to add to technologically and genetically/physically enhanced heroes.
    But yeah… so be it I guess…

  3. I know what you mean. It may be a leap for movie going audiences to buy into Thor and Green Lantern, because they are less grounded in reality than Batman and Iron Man–both of which ARE fantasy, but grounded in the strength and skills of extraordinary individuals. However, I will keep an open mind.

    • Why? Batman and Iron Man are ordinary men with sci technology, but so is Green Lantern. His tech might be more far-fetched, but all three are ordinary humans with advanced technology to help them fight. If anything, Hal Jordan is the closest to a real human. Batman has a virtually superhuman and psychotic obsession that drives him. Tony Stark has a genius that goes far beyond the abilities of any human that ever actually lived. Hal Jordan is just a cocky test pilot with human limits.

  4. I'm hoping it's not “cheesy” either for the sake of the characters. Green Lantern and Thor are both comic book legends and it would be a shame if they come off as “cheesy” in their debut movies. I hope it doesn't come off cheesy, the way Star Wars I – III came off! I couldn't stand characters such as Jar Jar Binks, and the young Annakin seemed lame to me but just like the GL ring and Thor's hammer, Star Wars has their “jedi force” thing that they pushed out to us. We'll see….

  5. I just saw the THOR trailer last night. I was VERY pleasantly suprised. Not cheesy at all. I was fearing that it would come off kinda like the 80's Masters of the Universe disaster. But,..no..it looked great. I found out that all the directors doing these comic book films are in very close contact with one another due to the fact that these films are going to collide with eachother eventually. I think thats very cool. As far as Green Lantern is concerned….I dig that Ryan Reynolds is playing the role. Reynolds has proven in other films that he isnt anchored to his smartass schtick such as Van Wilder. He actually IS a very fine actor. He LOOKS the part and he is THRILLED to be playing it…which makes a huge difference between an actor who is just fullfilling a contract agreement….and an actor who is excited about a role. He originally wanted to play The Flash which tells me he has a comic book bone in his body. I like that.

    • Dude, We just Got Green Lantern After 15 to 50 years of waiting. Lets not Rush into African American version just yet. If it was about Popularity i would so have picked Guy Gardner. Lets hope this Movie Rocks so we can have a Series Made up (Hey, We can hope tho with the amount of fantasy that has been tanking recently its hard to be optimistic). In the mean time lets treasure what we have and back a series of Green Lantern and Flash as good if not Better than the 80′s Version

  6. thats what dc is good for super heroes, magic, alternate dimentions, the multiverse. there’s a millenia of history to the green lantern corp’s, and if ryan reynolds doesnt try to do his usual im the dumb ass side kick role and stick to the role he has been given it will be a great movie, both story and visually, the green lanterns are tied with every dc character it could open doors

  7. Great blog right here! Also your website quite a bit up fast! What host are you the usage of? Can I get your affiliate link for your host? I desire my site loaded up as quickly as yours lol
