Marvel has released two new posters for Kenneth Branagh’s Thor.  Taking a turn away from the previous posters of “Tall bearded man holds mallet”, these new posters give audiences what they really want: words over the actors’ faces.  Yes, whether you’re white, old, female, or black, the word “Thor” makes the perfect addition to your gigantic mug.

Hit the jump to check out the posters.  Thor stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Stellan Skarsgard, Jaimie Alexander, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Josh Dallas, Tadanobu Asano, Idris Elba, Clark Gregg, and Colm Feore.  The film opens in 3D on May 6th.

Update: Paramount has sent over high resolution versions of both posters

Here’s the official synopsis for Thor:

The epic adventure “Thor” spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

    • I think it’s insulting to the black actor that he’s stuck in there as the token minority over the film’s villain. WTF?

  1. loki doesnt deserve a poster, but Heimdall-token does? pure marvel pc crap….. at least portman looks hot..

  2. Marvel should have released the pictures of each character from that banner as several posters (one with Thor, one with Odin, etc), and without letters blocking the actor’s faces. That would have been nice posters!

Also, posters with only one color is boring. And please, no more letters across Thor’s face.

  3. To anyone griping at these posters: Have you all thought for one moment that; a) maybe the idea of not having the villain in the poster leaves some intrigue to the film itself, and b) maybe Heimdall has a presence in the film worthy enough of having him on the poster? It blows my mind that most of you just have to sit and bash something based on the image. To support point a; (Weak example) Did the poster for Howard the Duck have the child molester from Ferris Bueller on it? No. Did the poster for Roots have white people on it? No. To support point b; the poster for Episode 1 DID have Jar-Jar on it, and the poster for Forrest Gump DID feature the bench he sat on. What I am trying to say is deal with it. There is still a need for suspense, curiosity, and intrigue. Not everyone in the world sits and drools over every move Hollywood makes. To the layman, the posters, trailers, and one shots will look fantastic. While on the same note, things may not always come across as creative to someone who oogles over this shit every day (like myself, but at least I enjoy it). There should still be a need to appreciate the fact that the media has got your attention, and gave you some kind of spark to feel the need to comment on it. Whether you like it or not, you viewed the pictures, and therefore you knew what the ad was trying to sell. There should definitely be more of an appreciation toward the effort, rather than trying to pick it apart. If you could do any better, why not apply for a job with Marvel’s advertising executives, or any other company. Let’s start with telling Geico that there isn’t one single gecko that drives a car. . .

  4. Well Herman,

Despite the fact that everybody is bitching about the crap ass posters. You gotta admit they are freaking horibble. I dont know about earlier editions/poster, but this a poor job by Marvel. I could do a better job with the free program, paint. I could damn sure make a better poster with Adobe. This gives me the idea that Marvel didnt even try. 1% of creativity would be appreciated! I can show you if you dare me!
