There’s currently no home release date for Thor: The Dark World, but a list of the special features have popped up online.  The special features include six deleted/extended scenes with audio commentary, a gag reel, an audio commentary track for the feature, a few featurettes, and an “Exclusive Look – Captain America: The Winter Soldier“.  The set also includes the new Marvel One-Shot, “All Hail the King”.  You may remember that a few months ago, we reported that Ben Kingsley was shooting a secret project for Marvel.  Could this be what Kingsley was working on?  Is the “King” of the title the King Lear that made Trevor Slattery the “toast of Croydon”?

Hit the jump to check out the list of special features.  Thor: The Dark World will be available for digital download starting February 4th and will be released on Blu-ray February 25th. [Update: Disney has released the official artwork for the two Blu-ray releases as well as a trailer, which all can be viewed after the jump.]

The OneShot could also be dealing with the fate of Odin after the end of the movie, although that wouldn’t explain the inclusion of Ben Kingsley :)

all hail the king… loki of course

Please God let’s hope that there really is a Mandarin and that it was all a trick to get Tony Stark/Sheild off of his trail. To turn Iron Man’s greatest foe into a drunken actor is just insulting. They found the perfect tone and look for the updated Mandarin and squandered it for a fucking punch line. Iron Man 3, which I enjoyed in theaters upon 1st viewing, has actually gotten worse w repeated viewings and suprisingly MOS has had the reverse effect. It would be the same thing if Fox made Magneto out to be a drunk and have Toad actually behind the scheme the entire time. The worst part about this is that this is suppose to be Marvel Studios, the studio that is suppose to stay true to their characters, that came up w this decision. Had Fox or Sony pulled this card there would of been hell to pay by the fanboys (X-Men 3 killing Cyclopse and Professor X and the black costumes of the 1st series? Spider-Man’s organic webshooters? Daredevil portrayed more like Batman? Nicolas Cage as Ghostrider? Deadpool’s treatment in Wolverine… I still hate that they won’t give him a solo film after raping his character in that film. Etc.) Let’s just hope Marvel can correct this w this One-Shot and redeem themselves by giving us the villian we wanted to see.

      Ben Kingsley wasn’t the Mandarin.

      • http://www.collider.com/ DNAsplitter

No I understand that part. I’m hoping that the twist is that they show some form of the real Mandarin punishing this drunk actor for calling himself that.

      • Spencer Jenkins

I always took it that Aldritch Killian was the Mandarin in the Iron Man movie-verse. I’m pretty sure he even says “I am the Mandarin!” at one point. I don’t think there will be a “real” Mandarin as that would mean there were two fake ones already. Kind of convoluted.

      • Kevin

This is correct. Anyone saying that The Mandarin was a “drunk actor” is talking about the wrong character. And yes, there is absolutely no way that they would set up a “real” Mandarin (especially in a one-shot) when they are not making any more Iron Man movies.

If they can M. Night Shyamalan twist it to fuck it up and they can M. Night Shyamalan twist it back to fix it. All they would have to do is make it like they wanted Ben Kingsley’s character to be caught and sent to some sort of high security prison (as they showed him being handcuffed and escourted at the end of IM 3). Maybe that high security prison holds the like of the Abomination or the Leader, as they were both introduced in the Incredible Hulk and never heard or seen from again, and this was all part of the 10 Rings plan for something bigger. IDK I’m not a writer but I can list off the top of my head multiple ways for them to make it work and still introduce the Mandarin w out back tracking their previous work.

      • Kevin

They aren’t making any more Iron Man movies. They aren’t setting up The “real” Mandarin.

Ben Kingsley wasn’t the Mandarin, but will be ;)

I thought the Ben Kingsley reveal was brilliant, but making Killian the mandarin seemed like an unnecessary addition. I would have preferred that the mandarin was just a construct meant to throw everyone off.

      • Leo Spaceman

I remember watching an interview from Shane Black given on the street in front of a restaurant (basically an impromptu informal interview) where Shane was talking about the reveal and how he really did see the Mandarin as a construct.

I don’t believe he wrote the film with the thought that the Mandarin was going to be Killian in the end. He wanted to do something different with the film which is why Kingsley wasn’t straight up the Mandarin but that the Mandarin was just a construct and when Killian was proclaiming that he was the Mandarin, Killian wasn’t saying that I am the evil arch nemesis of Iron Man by name, but that I am the embodiment of the construct that is the Mandarin.

      • Action Movie Fanatix

Yes, I saw that too and believe that this is the correct viewpoint. Killian wasn’t actually Mandarin. He was the man behind the fake Mandarin. When he said “I am the Mandarin” he was essentially saying that he was responsible for the acts that had been blamed on Mandarin for so long.

Actually they just announced the DVD release date today. It’s going to be February 25th.

Looks like a small but surprisingly extensive list of supplements, more than Disney usually does. Hopefully they’ll continue the Iron Man 3 trend and be the one studio NOT doing retailer exclusives. Not that I’ll be buying this movie anyway, wasn’t a big fan, but the retailer exclusive BS is getting out of hand.
