THOR’s Army Keeps Growing as Kat Dennings Joins the Cast

     November 23, 2009

This weekend, Natalie Portman said that she was excited to be working with her friend Kat Dennings on Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of Marvel’s Thor, and so the cast of the highly-anticipated superhero movie continues to grow.  In the past week alone we’ve heard about the casting of Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano as the Warriors Three and Idris Elba as Heimdall. Now we’ve learned that busty hottie Kat Dennings will be in the film.  Hit the jump and wonder if we’ll be hearing more casting tomorrow.  Thor was created in 1962 so I’m sure there are some more characters they could squeeze in there.

kat_dennings_01.jpgSpeaking with Natalie Portman over the weekend, MTV learned that Portman’s friend and Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist star Kat Dennings would have a role in the film although that role remains unknown.  Looking through the list of Thor‘s supporting characters from the comics, it could be any of the young women since there’s apparently no such thing as a flat-chested young woman in superhero comics.

For those just tuning in, here’s a brief synopsis:

The movie follows Thor (Chris Hemsworth) a Norse God banished to Earth for his arrogance and reckless behavior in the Asgard, the capital city of the Norse Gods.  On Earth, he falls in love with a nurse named Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), but must become a true hero when his sinister brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) brings the darkest forces of Asgard to wreak destruction on humanity.  Directed by Kenneth Branagh (Hamlet), the film co-stars Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Dominic Cooper, Jaimie Alexander, and Colm Feore.

Thor is slated to hit theaters on May 20, 2011.
