Warning: Spoilers are discussed in the second half of this interview.

With Terminator: Dark Fate now playing in select countries and opening around the world this weekend, I recently sat down with director Tim Miller for an exclusive interview. As most of you know, Terminator: Dark Fate takes place after Terminator 2: Judgement Day and ignores all the other Terminator sequels. The film features the awesome return of Linda Hamilton as she teams up with Mackenzie Davis and Arnold Schwarzenegger to protect Natalia Reyes from a new kind of Terminator (Gabriel Luna). The film is a return to form for the franchise and you can read a lot of positive reactions here or Haleigh Foutch’s review.

During my interview with Tim Miller he talked about if they ever discussed explaining why only one Terminator and one protector were sent back from the future, why Sarah Conner never looks for Kyle Reese, his first cut, deleted scenes, and what made him tear up while filming (he’s a big softie).

Check out what he had to say in the player above and below is exactly what we talked about followed by the official synopsis.

Tim Miller:

  • Did they ever discuss explaining in the movie why only one Terminator and one protector was sent back from the future?
  • Did they ever discuss Sarah looking for Kyle Reese?
  • What made him tear up while they were filming?
  • How long was the first cut?
  • Did they have a lot of deleted scenes?

Here is the official synopsis for Terminator: Dark Fate:

More than two decades have passed since Sarah Connor prevented Judgment Day, changed the future, and re-wrote the fate of the human race. Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes) is living a simple life in Mexico City with her brother (Diego Boneta) and father when a highly advanced and deadly new Terminator – a Rev-9 (Gabriel Luna) – travels back through time to hunt and kill her. Dani’s survival depends on her joining forces with two warriors: Grace (Mackenzie Davis), an enhanced super-soldier from the future, and a battle-hardened Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). As the Rev-9 ruthlessly destroys everything and everyone in its path on the hunt for Dani, the three are led to a T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) from Sarah’s past that may be their last best hope.
