The first trailer has been released for Terrence Malick‘s To The Wonder.  In the vague semblance of a plot, Olga Kurylenko plays a woman who travels to Oklahoma to be with the man she loves only to discover that their relationship isn’t as strong as they previously thought.  There’s also a story involving a priest who grapples with his loneliness and has almost no narrative relation to the other plotline.  I caught the picture at TIFF, and although To The Wonder is one of Malick’s shortest films, it feels like his longest.  His attempt to make an intimate film about intimacy caved in on itself, and most of the movie is just people whispering narration and twirling.  The majesty presented in this trailer is almost completely misleading.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, and Javier BardemTo The Wonder is set to open on April 12, 2013.

  1. I don’t remember asking for Goldberg’s opinion on the movie, especially considering that I HAVEN’T EVEN SEEN THE FREAKIN’ TRAILER FOR IT YET. Hasn’t Goldberg ever considered the possibility that people may in fact want to decide what they think of the movie for themselves?

  2. Terrance Mallick films suck so hard. They are almost unwatchable unless you think scattered plot, boring narrative, and exposition over pretty pictures makes a good movie.

    • Yes, you’re right. Take away talent, reason, understanding, plot, logic, character development, pretty pictures, scope, and significance and you have M. Night Shymalan. After Earth looks like it could be directed by Malick…

  3. I’m a huge Malick fan, but at some point he’s gotta realize a movie has to be more than a collection of sweeping reaction shots.
