While Marvel’s Iron Man 3 is set to hit theaters in a couple of months, another one of the studio’s sequels is gearing up to begin production. Anthony and Joe Russo are onboard to direct Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and now we have confirmation of another actor from the first film who, in addition to Chris Evans (obviously), will be returning: Toby Jones. The actor confirmed that he’ll be reprising his role as Nazi Dar. Arnim Zola, but no details are known regarding his appearance. Given that The Winter Soldier takes place in the present day, one assumes Jones will be appearing in flashbacks.
Joining Evans and Jones in the follow-up will be Anthony Mackie as Falcon, Sebastian Stan as the titular Winter Soldier, and Frank Grillo as baddie Crossbones. The female lead has yet to be cast, but Hayley Atwell revealed that she won’t be appearing in the film. Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens in 3D on April 4, 2014. Whatever happened to that Holloway.Costor Waldau rumor???..When will Sharon Carter be announced
Given the nature of Zola in the comics, it’s not unreasonable for that character to appear in the present.
Chitwood is just one of several writers who apparently don’t enough about the comics to know that Zola in the present day is completely reasonable, and in fact likely.
Not that I expect everyone to be a comics expert, but I’m only only a casual comics reader myself, haven’t bought one in ages, and I still knew that about Zola. At the very least, the writers at these geek sites should at least do some research on the characters they’re writing about, so they can speak intelligently about them.
I really love Toby Jones, so I am excited that he is reprising his role in the Captain America sequel. A coworker at DISH and I have been discussing whether or not they will include the detail about him preserving his brain in a robot body. I am very interested to find out the details, and in the meantime I will be getting my superhero fix with Blockbuster @Home from DISH. With my late work schedule, I always make sure to put my favorite movies on my cue so I can get them quickly in the mail. But I also love having the option of in store exchanges on days when I forget to mail back my movies. Watching the movies again, I am really impressed that they were able to keep the tone serious and not campy. I think that they can do this successfully in the sequel, even if a robot is included.
This is one of the best spam comments I’ve ever read. Bravo.
Makes sense. Zola was the one experimenting on Bucky in the original movie after all.
Cyborg Zola FTW. Now we just need Baron Zemo and big ass Hydra robots taking over what’s left of post-avengers NY. On the other hand, I don’t think there are good superhero movies when the there are more than two villans. Please correct me if I am wrong.
