The first trailer is online for The Way of the Gun-director Christopher McQuarrie’s Jack Reacher, starring Tom Cruise.  Unfortunately, it’s lost in translation unless you happen to speak Russian.  Basically, the guy in the hospital bed is narrating how badass Jack Recaher is; Cruise himself confirms it later on with no translation necessary.

An adaptation of the Lee Child novel, One Shot, Jack Reacher is the title character, an ex-military investigator who uses his imposing physical size (6’5”, 250lbs) and service experience to track down a sniper.  Jack Reacher also stars Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall, Richard Jenkins and David Oyelowo, along with Werner Herzog as the villain.  The film is scheduled to open on December 21st, 2012.  Hit the jump to see the trailer.

Here’s the first international trailer for Jack Reacher:

Read up on the synopsis of Lee Child’s novel One Shot and scope out the trailer below:

Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: You got the wrong guy. Then he says: Get Reacher for me.

And sure enough, ex—military investigator Jack Reacher is coming. He knows this shooter–a trained military sniper who never should have missed a shot. Reacher is certain something is not right–and soon the slam-dunk case explodes.

Now Reacher is teamed with a beautiful young defense lawyer, moving closer to the unseen enemy who is pulling the strings. Reacher knows that no two opponents are created equal. This one has come to the heartland from his own kind of hell. And Reacher knows that the only way to take him down is to match his ruthlessness and cunning–and then beat him shot for shot. [Amazon]

  1. Damn, looks pretty good except for the generic Limp Bizkit redux of the M:i-2 theme tune. Hope this is an R-rating. TC needs to get back in the game after yet another forced (FAILED!) marriage @(^_^)@

    • this is not limp bizkit. nothing to do with mi 2.

i think this is young men dead from the black angels

    • Seriously. Cruise is 5’7” and maybe 155 pounds, but he’s playing the part of a 6’5”, 250 lb man? I guess the “imposing physical size” is no longer part of his repertoire.

  2. Tom Cruise? Why? I know he is a “big” movie star, but he is no way enough of a presence to play the part. He just doesnt fit the bill for me. Ethan Hunt= YES. Reacher=WHY

Actor Johnny Messner should have played him. Made way more sense to me

  3. what the hell did i just watch? and the music sounds like MI theme. stupid… good luck with your divorce you shape shifting lizard!

  4. i loved MI4 but this… the film needs to be really good for me to support this new Tom Cruise vehicle series. Tom Cruise is a good actor but he really doesn’t look like Reacher at all.
    Let’s see, I have some hope :)

  5. Bwahaha. So, bet they didn’t think Cruise’s personal life would totally screw their movie up. Horrible casting choice anyway.

  6. This looks great for the 2012 Holiday season. I’m glad that Tom Cruise’s career has been able to rebound after “M:I-3″, “Lions For Lambs” “Valkyrie” & “Knight & Day” underperformed. It’s sad that Cruise’s going for 3rd divorce (all three wives both 11 years apart, & all divorced @ age 33: CONSPIRACY?), but has shown to be resilient in the past.

“M:I-GP” now has revitalized his career: 2012 showcased “Rock of Ages” (flop, though no fault to TC) & this December’s “Jack Reacher.” 2013′s lineup has “Oblivion” & “All You Need Is Kill”!

    CAN’T WAIT! =)

  7. I am unfamiliar with the Reacher novels, but I think that physical appearance is not the most important factor in casting – ever.

That said, I did not buy him being a badass for one minute. That little semi-stinger at the end just had me wanting Tom Cruise to bring some of his Collateral awesome takedowns, but instead it was … nothing.

McQuarrie directed one of the finest gun fights to ever grace the screen in Way of the Gun, so I am plenty excited that this movie will be awesome. But, even after this trailer, I am resting all that hope on McQuarrie’s pedigree alone.

  8. Fantastic points altogether, you simply won a emblem new reader. What may you recommend about your publish that you simply made a few days ago? Any positive?
