Tom Cruise in Costume for OBLIVION

     July 11, 2012

The first set photos of Tom Cruise in costume for Oblivion have gone online.  We previously brought you these rather generic-looking set photos of Cruise and co-star Olga Kurylenko filming in New York.  This time, Cruise was to be found in June Lake, California sporting a futuristic military uniform with a gun slung over his shoulder.  As is usually the case in set photos, these images are out of context and have no sense of dramatic lighting but, hey, cool jacket, right?  Oblivion, also starring Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Melissa Leo, hits theaters July 19th, 2013.  Hit the jump to see the new set photos.

Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack’s mission is nearly complete.  Living and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

Oblivion will be shot in stunning digital 4K resolution on location across the United States and Iceland.

Why do people keep hiring this psychotic? Plus, he’s a shi**y actor. Oh well, another film I won’t pay to see…

He’s a psycho who belongs to a crazy religion, but to say he’s a bad actor just means that you have no idea what good acting is. Tom Cruise is a great actor…..crazy person, great actor

He’s not psychotic or a bad actor. Look, most people believe a giant bearded man made of pure energy goes around impregnating women against their will, that then give birth to spiritual lords worthy of worship. As strange as it may seem, we’re more likely to be visited by extraterrestrial aliens, as says Scientology, than by omnipotent beings of pure radiant energy. Religion isn’t psychotic – it’s just… silly.

You just blew my fucking mind. O_O

Couldn’t agree more, Jay, and nicely put. It’s all nuts!
Plus Cruise brings more finance than most actors, allowing certain films to be made where otherwise they would perhaps be too risky. Jack Reacher is a good example, where people have tried for years to make a film based on that character. Having Cruise onboard has allowed it to happen.
Don’t understand the vitriol he gets

Tom Cruise is awesome, the guy’s a fantastic actor, and he seems like a nice, passionate dude. People only hate on him because they think they’re cool if they hop on the bandwagon, or because they’re prejudice against the religion he practices.

Anyway, the only thing I thought was good about Tron Legacy was the visuals and soundtrack, other than that I didn’t really care for it. Hopefully William Monahan crafted a good screenplay fro the comic. That’s all the Director (Joseph Kosinski) needs to excel, in my opinion. He’s using M83 too for the soundtrack, which is awesome. Excited!

While they filmed on Silver Lake private property owned by the owners of the Double Eagle, every day for 10 day’s I was stopped by Rent-a-cops trying tho go to may home on the lake. Then when the rest of the team arrived including cruise. I was stopped by US Forest service enforcement plus radio more CHP officers Every time I drove out our in many road. Just was ridiculous. I couldn’t give a rip that some actor was in town when the bigger story is the ski mountain closing and locals being put out of work. All this for a premadona actor who never left his hosts house the two days he was in town.
